An American military helicopter burst into flames after landing in an empty field in Okinawa on Wednesday, the Japanese defence minister said, with no injuries reported.
The US military told Japanese authorities that their CH- 53 transport helicopter "landed" before the fire erupted in the early evening just outside a training ground on the island, said Itsunori Onodera.
National broadcaster NHK showed dramatic footage of firefighters battling orange flames after dark and plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky.
"When the US Marine Corp CH-53 helicopter landed, a fire started. We have received information that all crew members were safe," Onodera told reporters.
Japanese authorities asked the US military to provide a full report and take steps to prevent a similar accident.
MADRID (Reuters) - A Eurofighter combat jet plane crashed near a military base in southeastern Spain on Thursday, killing its pilot, an emergency services spokesman said.
Local emergency services received a call at 1009 GMT informing them that the plane had crashed on farmland around the Los Llanos base near the town of Albacete, the spokesman said.
The jet had been taking part in a military parade to commemorate Spain’s national holiday and crashed on its return, a defence ministry spokesman said.
The causes of the accident were being investigated, the ministry added in a note.

JASDF Helicopter Seen to Have Crashed off Central Japan

JASDF helicopters and Japan Coast Guard patrol ships headed for the crash site to search for the crew members.
F-4 fighter jet catches fire just before take-off from JASDF base

OMITAMA, Ibaraki Prefecture--An F-4 fighter jet caught fire before it was due to take off at a Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) base here Oct. 18, the Defense Ministry said.
The 11:47 a.m. blaze near the Hyakuri Air Base runway was extinguished shortly after. The two JASDF crew members on board escaped without injuries.
Just before the fire broke out, the pilot informed an air traffic controller that the aircraft’s left landing gear was damaged.

Pentagon identifies US service member killed in Afghanistan copter crash

The US service member killed in a Friday helicopter crash in Afghanistan has been identified as Chief Warrant Officer Jacob Sims, 36, the Department of Defense said Sunday.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A Mirage-2000 fighter jet of the Taiwan Air Force disappeared from radar screens while off the coast of North Taiwan Tuesday evening, according to media reports.
The French-built aircraft was on a routine mission when it vanished around 6:43 p.m, cable station TVBS said. Nothing was immediately known about the fate of the pilot, named as Ho Tzu-yu, a man who had just celebrated his first wedding anniversary, according to the TV report.
A coast guard vessel had reportedly picked up a signal and was searching the area for the jet, while the Air Force was sending an S-70C helicopter, the Central News Agency reported.
Earlier reports placed the jet near the coast of Hsinchu County, but later news said the plane had last been located close to Keelung.
Iraqi army helicopter crash kills seven, military says

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An Iraqi army helicopter crashed during a routine flight on Sunday, killing all seven people on board, a military statement and Iraqi air force officers said.
The Russian-made Mi-17 helicopter went down near the southern province of Kut, the statement said. Two pilots and five army officers were killed, Iraqi air force officers told Reuters.
A technical malfunction caused the crash, the military statement said.

Indian Air Force Trainer aircraft crashes in Telangana, woman pilot safe

New Delhi: A Kiran trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed shortly after taking off from the Hakimpet Air Force Station in Hyderabad on Friday.
The woman pilot on board ejected safely before the crash and is reported to be safe.

She was rushed to nearby hospital by the locals and is undergoing treatment.

Norway's effort to replace its aged search and rescue helicopter fleet has suffered a significant setback after its newly delivered Leonardo Helicopters AW101 – the first of an eventual 16 aircraft – overturned during a ground run on 24 October.
No injuries were reported to the two crew on board, but images posted on social media show the 15.6t helicopter resting on its right-hand side, minus its main rotor blades.
The AW101 (MSN 50268) had only been handed over to the Royal Norwegian Air Force on 17 November.
No detail on the extent of the damage is available, but the Norwegian defence ministry has described it as a "serious incident" in local media.
Leonardo was not immediately available to comment.
The AW101 was scheduled to enter service in Norway in 2018.
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) — Hilda Hernandez, sister of President Juan Orlando Hernandez, and five other people were killed in a helicopter crash Saturday on a mountain near the Honduran capital.
Hernandez, 51, was an agronomy engineer who served as communications minister under her brother and as minister of social development during the previous administration of then-President Porfirio Lobo.
The military helicopter carrying Hernandez, four members of her security detail and a pilot took off from Tegucigalpa’s international airport in the morning bound for her residence in Comayagua, about 40 miles (60 kilometers) from the capital.
Soon afterward, the air force reported that the aircraft had gone missing. The wreckage was later discovered in the mountains outside Tegucigalpa with no survivors.
Reynaldo Sanchez, the head of the president’s National Party, said in a statement: “Be with God, Hilda Hernandez, a tireless fighter for our party.”
