The Oceanic Server is still located in the states. The server is merely created just to bring ppl who are from oceanic to playin that server with the same timezone.
Latency wise, there's no difference

300 ms is the average connection speed even from ppl living in Australia, NZ, and anywhere else outside of the USA. if u're getting 300 ms, that's pretty good.

a lot of us are playing in the 400-800 ms range. and this is not a true reflection of the latency. because it is possible to play 1K lag provided there's no unusual lagspikes. it's the lagspikes that kills u, not the pings.

the server latency problem is not due to whether it's a US or Oceanic server. it depends on the server itself. some servers are known to lag more than others. due to high population or just hardware issues.

Na he only cheat u on the server being in AUS part. The average ping is around 300ms provided you got the fastest IP and the server is low on pop.

I myself average about 300 ms during weekdays and around 500 ms during weekends.

If u enjoy world PVP, join Thaurissan or if u enjoy doing quest peacefully, join Nagrand PVE.

I'm on Nagrand PVE, doing PVP only in BG or scheduled weekend raid.

Population here is quite low to medium, plus there no server tranfer allowed on Nagrand until now. So there's so few 70s on this server.

Best choose a server where there are plenty of players in your timezone (check out the recruiting posts in this forum). While solo WOW is perfectly possible, you will eventually want to party up and raid to progress further.

if possible, play a healer cuz we're really lacking them, especially paladins, we got none thus far. (soon to have one, 70 and ready to raid that is)

it does kill... if you've noticed ur skill time-to-register, you will know how big a difference it is between 400 ms and 800.

on avg, 400ms skill takes about 2-4 o'clock of skill turning to register. 800ms can take around 4-8o'clock of skill turning to register.

what is this skill turning thing im talking about? works on any skill but would be better to "test it" with detect mining/detect herb type of skill where it has no condition attached and spammable. each skill when pressed, takes a turn, and since its square/circle'ish, we'll just imagine it as a clock.

with that, 1 skill fully turned is 1.5sec (global cool down)
convert it to clock reading, you can see how long it takes to register and ultimately, it will be almost the same as what your latency reads.

hee hee...skill turning indeed. somehow that cracks me up. reminds me of the old type of car where you have to "crank the engine to start".

limsk is right though. it is true that you need to find one where there's a lot of ppl on your timezone. there's quite a number of asian-timezone guilds still on the US servers.

plus, being on the US servers, there is an advantage of having more skilled PUG players for instancing compared to Oceanic servers.

i'll answer here rather than the other one. leave the other one for IPs only nagflar.

also, those of us who do play, we reconnect to streamyx until we have a fast line and leave the PC on the whole day to have that fast line. some folks say to leave the router on but i find when i start up my PC again, suddenly IP changes and slows down.

starting areas will also have low latency because it's more packed with ppl and especially in the capital cities of stormwind and ironforge. darnassus has a smaller population so shouldn't lag. erodar is just empty coz it's just too darn big.

leave only your Antivirus and Firewall working in the background. no music player, no chat programs, no spyware, no browser on. some folks play the music on the same player provided that u have enough memory. else turn them off. also, sometimes it helps to go Full-screen rather than Windows mode.

what ip are u connected at? 218.xxx or 60.50.xxx or 60.49.xxx and so on. If you are getting crappy latency on a certain ip, disconnect ur streamyx n reconnect again until u get a different ip. I usually do that when im on a crappy line.

u give up too easily nagflar. that's quite a lot of money wasted if u've already gotten the retail version of the game.

usually for bad connections like urs, u might want to start off on a low population server. u can see it in the realms list. the lag would decrease a lot.
