I just got this phone, it not lag but the screen response time is not that good. You can see the trail (aka ghosting) if your eye sensitive enough. Still, its responsive enough.I upgraded from Mi4 and thats the first one I noticed.

The camera in low light is pretty abysmal too but you can offset this by using HDR bit that made the camera slow to take pictures.

Anyone root this phone yet? I havent updated it yet, just unlocked the bootloader. This phone is so new it doesn't even have custom recovery yet laugh.gif

What else do you think on its performance, compared to mi4?

Interested to know since I've the mi4 too (on lineage OS)
*
Other than the screen, performance is great. I play epsxe emulator and run smoothly. Switching between task and opening apps also great because the extra gig of RAM. I'd say its much faster than Mi4. And runs very cool, Mi4 heats up when gaming and sometime when browsing even when underclocked but not on this phone.

I didn't encounter any WiFi or 4G dropout, mind you this is the first phone I use to have 4G, Mi4 dont have 4G. Its blazing fast!

Screen on time is amazing! Without root or any power saving my battery is still 82% from unplugging this morning with screen of time of 2 hours 15 minutes. Most of the time Im on 4G network with gaming and browsing

I havent root yet but when I install Kernel Toolkit I see the ZRAM is enabled and swappiness is set to 100, ZRAM is similar to Windows using harddisk space as memory when physical memory depleted. I think this might be the cause of the lag people noticed. I'll try to root this phone tonight to confirm this.

8.) Any way to get a tap or double tap to wake gesture?
*

Why on God's Earth you need that when you have fingerprint scanner to wake it?

When the phone is lay flat on a surface. Double tap to wake is much appreciated

If you too lazy to pick up the phone, guess you need root to enable it.

Because some of us are actually working in the office, so it's good to tap to catch a glance instead of taking up the phone.  tongue.gif

Please don't insult or generalise the use of the phone, not everyone uses the phone the same way you do.
*
Im not insulting because you can just pick up the phone and put your finger on it to turn the screen on. Take about what? A couple of seconds? Mind boggling really when the convenience is there.

Ok, we'll agree to disagree then? I just asked for my own convenience, you are free to disregard the question. Cheers!  smile.gif

Suit yourself, but if the phone doesnt support it natively usually the battery life would suffer badly if you enable it. From my own experience.

The DT2W argument to save power button life is questionable. Not that much phone have this problems. From my recent memory only early batch of Nexus 5 suffer power button failure after a while.

About 2 weeks of usage slowly getting used to it.......... smile.gif

Do you guys notice of that Mi A1 lack of vibration intensity?  hmm.gif
*
Vibration is a bit soft but I like the way it is.

I used for a few days now. Updated to September security update, unlocked bootloader and rooted. My usual SOT is around 4hrs 30min to 5hrs 30min when it hit 50% battery. The phone is very cool even when gaming, I think this is my first phone that is very comfortable to use for gaming.

I've tried to improve things on this phone but one things are clear, there is no camera2 API on it. I tried enabling it but it made all 3rd party apps unable to use any manual feature, no ISO, no shutter speed control.

I saw there is a "Manual" mode in the camera, doesn't there the shutter speed, ISO control you are looking for? Sorry I'm not very sure, just saw the settings there but never use it, the phone is belongs to my son.
*
What I mean is when I enable camera2 in build.prop those setting disappear in 3rd party apps means there is no camera2 API on this phone

For anyone who wanted to use Google camera app, you need to put this in build.prop (need to root to edit it)

persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1

But this will make 3rd party camera app unable to use manual control (shutter control etc) but you can still use it on stock camera apps.

While you edit that, better to put this as well to enable EIS (electronic image stabilization for video recording)

persist.camera.eis.enable=1

With f2.2 on main camera dont expect it to do well when taking bokeh picture. F2.6 on second camera make it worse to take in low light

Guide or links to unlock bootloader & root .
Btw can install TWRP ?
*
Head over to Xiaomi Mi A1 xda and get the AIO tool v2. Follow the instruction. TWRP is still in developement, I dont recommend flashing it.

For those that rooted their A1, is there a way to disable capacitive keys all together? Including the backlight
*
Disable button light here. There is a way to disable the keys, a bit of Googling will get you there.

Thanks! I found the method to disable the keys earlier but not the backlight (how could I missed that since I was browsing XDA as well  bangwall.gif )
*
Yeah, that happen to me too. Dont worry about it it happen to any of us.

I've been modding the camera for this past few days. Forcing camera2 through build.prop messed up video recording for primary camera. Image quality isnt any better. What I suggest is to enable HDR all the time. Even with the delay when taling picture, the color and contrast is much better, its worth it to keep it enabled.

Just wanted to share, if you guys wanted to force to use the zoom lens in low light you need to use manual mode and change the lens from wide to tele. You can double check with EXIF data, if f2.6 its zoom lens.

LG V20 is a flagship
its a no brainer

Thats true. Flagship devices were better than these midrangers, better in terms of everything. Heck, in terms of screen responsiveness my Mi4 were miles ahead of Mi A1

If people buy this phone mentioning MIUI you are missing the major point of buying this phone. You should buy Mi5x instead.
