Not true. I have two REDMI NOTE 4 with SD 625 My variant. Both having GPS lock in problem and unstable. WIFI ok!

Why Xiaomi Resorted to Android One, not MIUI for Mi A1?

Xiaomi recently launched its latest smartphone- Mi A1 embedded with Google’s Android One, instead of its own MI UI operating platform.

With this device, Xiaomi has joined hands with Google, riding on the Android One platform. Just to recollect, Android One devices were there in the India market and used mostly for budget handset phones, however, they failed to enthuse the audience.

Xiaomi Mi A1, which was launched at INR 14,999 in the India market, marks a fresh beginning for Android One, but why Xiaomi resorted to Android One and not MIUI operating platform this time. According to industry experts, the move is to prove faster OS updates to customers and also to add a security layer.

Updating existing devices, with device makers in the value chain is quite time consuming and so coming along with Google’s Android One platform would made the updates faster. The overall process goes like this, the android team come out with the latest release and then companies involved in creating the chips modify the releases accordingly. Thirdly, the device manufacturers modify the releases and work with the carriers for the availability of the devices.

However, with Android One, the most time consuming step where device manufacturers are involved would be curtailed, resulting in faster updates.

With stock android we can easily get constant update and security patch. no more pre installed unwanted apps or bloatwares me thinks. Simplicity is the key word here.

To me, SD650 is like a 2.0NA Honda Accord (big cc old tech-28nm-, but not fuel efficient -battery-)
SD625 is like a 1.5 turbo Civic (small cc+ turbo -new 14nm tech-, similar performance but more fuel efficient)

I agree 625 such a bummer....ppl expecting after 650...we gonna get something better rather than 625...yes you can say 625 is cooler draw less power and so on...but the fact of the matter is its slower than 650...why many ppl hates 625....because almost all the manufacturer today use this chip for their brand new midrange offering....yes its not bad....but i ineed to waaaaait another years or 2 to upgrade my 650 to something significantly better like 660....or maybe another 3 or 4 year due to 630 launch...

The way i see it, if this 625 doesn't exist...this Mi A1 cud come with 660 soc with kryo core instead....thats why like i said 625 was a bummer...its marketing move perhaph...just imagines if A1 do come with 660...less ppl gonna get the more expansive pixel...

I am currently using the rn4 4gb ram type. Actually I didn't feel slow on this phone. Mayb I not play games. I don see diff in the that I have and now use by my son .

The good about rn4 for my case is I no longer need to care battery left how many %. Sometimes I even let the phone become hotspot . I hope A1 will be the same

To be honest xiaomi in budget line, for their phone processor specs all those remain as Snapdragon 6xx , why not put on Sd 800, for additional cost.
