For me engagement ring and wedding ring don't mean to be for life time. If want to change to other ring won't have effect on me at all. It is just a ring. The relationship is much more important to me.
On the other hand, most will cherish both rings for life time.

Engagement ring = The one your propose with. You can also put it onto her finger during the actual day.

Wedding ring/band = Simpler ring design. Can come as matching pair for both husband and wife. Typically used for everyday wear. Some ladies wedding band can match back with the engagement ring as well, so that both engagement ring and wedding band can wear on the same finger when going out.

Both husband and wife? Any jewelers will have.

For engagment ring and wedding band, you can ask private jeweler to customize for you so that both of them can look best with each other. Try look for iDo Jewellery.

I understand that most westerners or Christians do exchange rings at the wedding reception. What about traditional Chinese wedding reception? I don' recall seeing any ring exchanging.

Traditional chinese only do it during ROM. Exchange the wedding bands. During actual day when you pick up the bride, you can actually help the bride to put on the engagement ring instead for photoshooting purpose.

This is accurate. Some ladies prefer wearing both engagement ring and wedding ring everyday but that's depending on the individual.

to answer the topic - although having a separate wedding band and engagement ring seems to be the standard these days, having both rings or not is entirely up to the couple. the engagement ring can also be the wedding ring provided that the couple has to have the same understanding regarding this.

Not sure is this the right place to ask and appreciatr if you guys could help. I plan to propose to my gf when we will be travelling end of Sept. i just bought the proposal ring and my question is how do I travel with the proposal ring? If I were to put the ring in my bagpack as hand carry to plane, will the security stop me to check on my bag ?
