My Dell LCD monitor is 10+ years old. Last few months, noted the whitish glare patches on startup when the screen is black. See photo below. The patches look like light glare reflections.

What can I do to rectify that?

Some sort of monitor reset? Ha.

Or some electronics in there have died of use and old age?

Will this harm my eyes if I continued to use it?

Many thanks.

Thanks.

Like to find out what can be done first before getting a new one.

My policy is, make the best of what I have. Stingy guy. Ha.

Feedback from monitor experts?

Will has no additional effect on your eyes more than what it has when new smile.gif

The whitish spot may have been developed due to deformed plastic layer on the LCD. It is just like when you put some pressure on the screen and the color changed. The plastic may have bent due to heat and aging over times. It could be the glare coating worn off over time due to wiping, perhaps. Nothing can do much I guess.

Other white spots which appear like dots here and there could be dust or foreign material on backlight screen. This required removal of LCD panel and cleaning the backlight but I think this is not what your problem is.

Maybe you can try put layer of tint film and see if this remove the appearance.... just a suggestion. smile.gif

Ooo ..... you meant that 5 dots? I guess it is from behind. Need to dismantle and do cleaning. Dismantling probably not easy and may break plastic secure clip especially on old plastic. Plastic become brittle over time

Thanks.

Not the 5 white dots. That is the indication when starting up the OS.

Read in the web to push hard on the screen to push the whitish patch away to the side. Tried that, did not work.

Heard it can also be due to some electronic parts failing. If so, then will have to get a new monitor once my eyes cannot tahan the screen.
