yup, becuz after u're using it for a time. When u wanna partition,u need to format ur hdd,so maybe very mafan for you i think.
*
QUOTE(williamlee_1985 @ May 15 2007, 08:41 PM)
yeah i would suggest so..i've tried using partition magic but donno y not successful so i reformated everything and redo
*
QUOTE(minghao @ May 16 2007, 03:45 PM)
Since the 1st time u dun partioned it,the second time ur only1 partiton cant be extend anymore unless u format. :cool2:Or the 1st time u create 1 partiotn, and another part haven be partioned..then u might can do like that.
*
You can always resize your main partition to smaller size, eg. C drive 40gb->20gb, then use the size that free out from C drive, 20gb, to create a new partition, eg. D drive with 20gb. If you want, you can do it anytime no matter how long you use your PC.

Windows XP, use a 3rd party software like Partition Expert or Partition Magic will be easier.

Windows Vista, use its own buddle disk management.

It is better to create the partition while formatting the harddisk because it will be easier and faster.

it says bluetooth connection cannot be establise, make sure the bluetooth radio is plug in ...

anywhere to uninstall the driver and reinstall it back .. i cant find bluetooth in the device manage >.<
*
Is the bluetooth working fine previously? If it is, you must be accidently uninstall it, because it is not in the device manager. Try install it again with the proper driver for your OS.

Ching4ever..just realized u have a external 3.5 inch hard disc..can it be used with ur Inspiron 6400?

i heard from my fren that the lappie might not have enough power to power both the internal hard disc in the lappie and external hard disc? somemore its a external 3.5 inch one? anyone have any idea?  hmm.gif
*
Better to get a good casing with good review on it. Don't get those cheap one because want to save money, the harddisk may get damage if too hot.

QUOTE(teikwing @ Jun 2 2007, 02:01 AM)
how much u bought it with the casing? wanted to get an external HDD but like stuck between 2.5" & 3.5". wanted portability but cheap & has big amount of space. think nth comes cheap. sad.gif
*
If you are not going to carry the harddisk around, get 3.5" one better, larger space with cheaper price. If you want portable only get 2.5".

Which casings for 3.5 inch notebook do u recommend?

I think i'll get a 3.5" one...basically need one to store all my info...movies and etc..
*
I will recommend you vantec or cooler master. Vantec NexStar USB2.0 casing I'm using right now, overall not bad but because it just use the alluminium casing design only, so the heat may goes up if the ventilation of your place not very good.

Cooler master (can't remember the model), I bought it for my friend, using the same harddisk, the casing design with many tiny hole on one side of the casing and it support a new technology which is using dual USB, means that you can transfer file through 2 USB cable at the same time, faster trasnfer speed. The ventilation of the casing very good, the harddisk barely feel the heat compare to my vantec case.

Added on June 4, 2007, 3:37 amFinally got my ram and just upgrade it, now it is 2 x 1GB 667Mhz, dual channel, checked inside BIOS.

And also get a new mouse after using my RM15 lousy mouse for 1 year, Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000. Yeah!!

*
Confirm can. Because I just replace my ram to 2 x 1GB 667 DDR2, kingston also. But I bought it online for price RM120 per piece.

Just call Dell yesterday and they will sent a technician over tommorrow as I past their cut off time ady. Sob... But good service by dell.. I told them my laptop tend to overheat a bit and they say they will change the heatsink fan for me. lol.. as I complaint last time when they change my motherboard... they didnt clear it off for me. lolx

Wow.. really RM120.. Very tempted to change now as I need more RAM as even 1gb ram... I tend to used out all my memory always. lol..
*
If you want better get it fast because some shop in lowyat started to increase the price. I also upgrade it to 2GB because 1GB is not enough for me to use and upgrade now better than upgrade later when the price is high.

Yeah...thats why its strange...but yeah, i do lift up my laptop slightly..facing me..cos im using the Zalman notebook cooler...it lifts it up from the back..but so far i think i know the reason why my notebook is so hot..im running 90 processes..is that alot of processes? But seems like most of it are from vista and dell....please advise.. blink.gif
*
90 processes? shocking.gif That's consider super a lot!!! Close and delete those useless software, it will help to reduce a lot and make your laptop run faster.

I'm using Windows XP, I modify the service in WinXP, now my laptop boot up with only the service needed for me. Including the NOD32 anti virus, my laptop boot up with only 25 processes.

been using i8kfangui, great software . . . just wonderingif it'll effect the life span of the fan if using it for long, since it runs the fan to the max rpm???
*
Sure it will affect the life span of the fan but if you under complete cover, no need to worry much.

After I used the software for sometimes, I turn back to BIOS fan contorl, better control, the fan not running all the time at max rpm, prefer BIOS than i8kfangui, just use i8kfangui for temp monitoring. Some more now I'm in winter, the fan seldom turn on tongue.gif

I think most of us get the complete cover warranty because want to protect our laptop with worry free.

My 6400 already 1 year+, so far so good, never turn me down. I seldom shut down, didn't use any cooler even during summer in Australia, no problem at all.

how much does a 2gb 667mhz ram cost nowadays??? . . . planning 2 change from a 1gb to 2 gb . . . are there a lot of problem changing it.
Im kinda blur wit wat to do after replacing the modules.
*
I bought it for RM120 per stick. The price seem like going to increase soon, so if you wanna change, make it quick.

QUOTE(kingmax @ Jun 8 2007, 02:24 AM)
Australia summer temp is still cooler than Malaysia.Malaysia always no change 33'c for the whole year.So what's the temp at australia summer ?
Round RM130 per GB stick means you need to prepare RM300 in case the ram price hike up.
*
Summer can cooler than Malaysia? shakehead.gif The temperature in this summer is not stable because of the global warming, sometimes damn hot, 35c+ sometimes quite low 30c+. Last year summer, temperature goes up to 40c for few days in the 3 months time.

its is posible...just call them...but then, courier charge would b much more expensive than the bluetooth itself... sweat.gif
Not really. Its depend on the sales rep that serve you. I bought mine from Australia, cheaper than Malaysia. brows.gif

My friend bought it at Malaysia, but he flew to Australia before the bt arrive and he request to dell that sending the bt here, and dell agree with no extra charge for sending the bt from Malaysia to Australia. rclxms.gif

He request for the quotation twice with two different sales rep, first one give him an expensive price but second one with a cheap price, and it is just next day only. Wonder how the sales rep charge the user with thouse quotation. sweat.gif

Vista build in with the disk management which can let the user partition the drive without using any 3rd party software like partition magic.

Go google or try it out yourself. It is pretty simple to do it. I'm not using Vista, can't help you. And it is hard for others to screen shoot for you because no one want to partition their harddisk just to show you the steps how to do it unless you are special to them tongue.gif

As long as there is still 6400 owner then this thread won't die. But won't as active as now because no more new buyer post question about 6400. And once all members familar to their 6400, no more question ask, this thread will be dead i think.
