Just setup this router for Time broadband, did the speedtest with tplink ac1300 usb wifi adapte, the download speed is only 4mbps while upload speed 100mbps, using laptop and Note8 no problem getting 100mbps for both, previously using tplink ac1200 router also can get both 100mbps. I wonder is it compatibility issue with the asus router and tplink wifi adapter?

Try reconnect with your wifi adapter. For some reason my old Galaxy Note 3 also eventually went 4mbps (It even shows low speed in the devices page) after staying connected for few days then upon reconnecting it goes back 100mbps. All other devices never suffers from this issue. However I had this issues once only.

I put my AC86U below my table and it is able to reach 600Mbps / 75MB/s while transferring movies to my S8 through FTP (Theoretical 1083.3Mbps as shown in devices page), my sd card is bottle-necking now.. lol.
The TB version uses the same firmware but upon resets it will show mandarin words again, so the software is international but after resets there is some defaults that is pre-set to china region.

My problem already solved, the culprit was the TPlink wifi adapter driver, i reinstall the driver and the problem solved.

Not worried about dust accumulating inside?
*
I'm not really care, furthermore there are fan filter, just clean the filter once a while, i'm more worried if without fan the heat will make the router malfunction.

Hi How much is it to send back to China?
Do you need to deal in mandarin?
*
Finally using Airpak, shipping charge is RM150, asked Yunda (China courier company in Malaysia), shipping charge is RM89 but lot of requirements eg cannot shipped power adapter, Airpak has no question asked. I need to deal with Taobao seller for checking of destination address in China and therefore Mandarin is required.

understood the max speed could not be reached. but to only get less than 50% of the speed using this router is a bit sad.
*
I suggest you read this https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4658454 to understand more why mobile phones & some laptops couldn't reached max speed.

Considering it was at 99 degrees and then crashing, this is already an improvement. Now is not a good time for me to open up the router, perhaps I will do it in early Jan
*
Not sure how you installed the fan, but mine getting around 59 degree

My replacement unit died (so that's 2 units died) in the span of 6 months. i asked my seller if can get a replacement. he said can't but he said he can take the unit back and compensate. i feel bad about it because both of us are losing money in this, but i blame asus i guess. great but flawed model. hopefully their other models don't suffer from this same fate

but that's the end of me buying the ac86u. can't recommend anyone buying it despite the great function/spec it has
*
You bought locally? At least you got some compensation, we bought from Taobao and the money gone biggrin.gif

Tested both reset and 30-30-30 WPS reset also not working sad.gif
Manage to contact Taobao and will have to send back seller at China.
Anyone send back to China for claiming warraty?
*
I would say sending back to China is nightmare, my friend tried to send back to China twice (thought to try different courier company), unfortunately both also got hold by China customs and required seller to present certain documentation where seller said they can't provided, at the end the router got returned back to Malaysia, wasted more than RM200 shipping charges. Last month he got a trip to China then only managed to send back to seller via local courier company there, now still waiting for RMA from Asus China.

Maybe you should try those logistic company rather than pure courier company.
They have few option for shipment.
We shall choose Electronic sensitive air shipment, so that I wont hold by custom.

Not really. Saw one case using local unit with fans installed since day 1, still have hardware issue after few months. Totally up to your luck.  confused.gif

So better get local unit with Asus Malaysia warranty to avoid send it back to China.  nod.gif

Exactly, mine also 2 pcs of fan installed since day 1, still having issue not even 1 year old.
