Hi everyone,
I’m considering to get this router. But I have limited space, can any kind soul help measure the base width?
I checked on Asus’ website, it says 8.5cm. I’m not entirely sure that’s the router width, or base.
Thanks in advance !

For those who are interested to cool AC86U passively, I’ve done it successfully as follows:
1) CPU = 1.8 + 0.5 + 0.3mm 20x20mm copper shim (Sandwiched with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut) 2) 2.4G CPU = 2x 2mm GELID thermal pad 3) 5G CPU = 2x 2mm GELID thermal pad 4) PCB underside = 5pc, 2mm GELID thermal pad. (Single layer)
4 days average so far: CPU = 59 (Prev. 73) 2.4G CPU = 46 (Prev. 53) 5G CPU = 50 (Prev. 55)

QUOTE(jimbet1337 @ Jul 31 2020, 12:01 PM) Wow nice temp reading bro. Not much different than my unit with active cooling (double fan). Will try to look at this. Hope the dimension will help! It took me couple of weeks to trial & error, ordering copper shim from AliExpress. Finally get the optimum contact between heatsink and CPU.

QUOTE(neuromancerx @ Aug 2 2020, 04:34 PM) thanks for this some questions, 1) CPU = 1.8 + 0.5 + 0.3mm 20x20mm copper shim (Sandwiched with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut) -what does it mean by 1.8 +0.5 + 0.3mm? 2) 2.4G CPU = 2x 2mm GELID thermal pad -means require 2 pieces of 2mm (thickness)? how about the size? new to this, never knew such things exist 1) That's the thickness of copper shim. If you managed to get a 2.6mm ones, then only need 1pc, no need sandwich. 2) yeah. 2mm is thickness. GELID thermal pad has 3 different thicknesses IIRC. Size is roughly (eye-balling) 15x15mm. [Temp update aft. 2wks, highest recorded. On rainy/night, CPU drops 2-3 degC. Not much fluctuations on WiFi] CPU = 61 degC 5Ghz = 51 degC 2.4Ghz = 49 degC This post has been edited by capiche: Aug 7 2020, 03:22 PM

QUOTE(findecano1 @ Nov 23 2020, 06:49 AM) @capiche Any chances of pictures being captured? Apologies for the late reply. Extremely busy with work. Unfortunately everything was done in a rush, so didnt manage to capture photo. In general, you'll just need to remove the heatsink (front, back) then cut the heatpad to size. I also agak-agak only. But you may use previous measurement as a guideline. To report back, below is the stats: 2.4G - 46 degC 5G - 50 degC CPU - 59 degC Ambient - 30 degC FW: Merlin 384.19 This post has been edited by capiche: Mar 18 2021, 11:57 AM
