TP-Link's hardware is decent ... but their software support is crap. Firmware is often not updated, even where are massive security holes uncovered.
If you're gonna use alternative firmware with a tp-link (ie openwrt) then that's fine. But this is something for semi-advanced users to do.
I have a couple of TP-Links I keep as backups, my WDR4300 from ages ago still works fine.
