Hello fellas who do your own basic service. Would like to know where do you normally buy your car's coolant?
Is it okay if use those that are sold at Giant or petrol station?

Edit: Btw, the place to fill up coolant is the coolant tank right? What about the aluminium cap one ah?

Just go to a car spare shop, they usually give you the best value of the bucks. ask them what brands they carry, dun buy the cheapest , but a mid range price one , read * compare the brand & the manufacturer available. A good one should be around rm20~rm40 which the service centers will charge you rm60 onwards.

This one looks good enough

U need to know if ur radiator system still got coolant or not.
If yes, what? IAT, OAT, HAT type?
If you don't know, drain & flush before adding new coolant.
Reason being, mixing coolant of different genre might lead to chemical reaction which will create residue that clog the system.
Actually just add RO water pun ok.

Yeah. Planning to flush it all out and replace a new one
No idea of the current coolant but it's red lol

So if flush it all out I can put any that you mentioned right

RO water can meh. I thought it's only fine for a short period just to withstand it while it's low

Ow.. My other car now is using mix. How often do I have to top up the coolant? Cause I see my car now like water more than coolant ad.. lol.
So, if I want to add back the coolant to my car filled with water what do I do? Remove the water first? Cause now its all rusty ad, old car. haha. since 90s. lol.

Coolants are not expensive, even for the most top end products. Since most are using aluminum radiators and more and more cars are using aluminum blocks, just look for formulations that state nitrite free.

Despite the existence of corrosion inhibitors, corrosion will still set in some time in use. Corroded elements eat up the nitrite additives and will slowly cause the coolant to foam up. When there is foam, there is something called cavitation (something like sand blast effect, but caused by air bubbles), slowly chipping away the metal surface.

Just get Toyota coolant (red) from spare part shop. About rm25 each/1litre. Mix it with distilled water (spritzer, Aeonbig) while pouring would do.

If you just simply perform drain and fill, 1 litre of red coolant will be enough. Otherwise, 2 litres of red coolant If you are going to flush everything out.

IIRC your car comes with Toyota Super LLC (pink) coolant from the factory. Do not use the normal red Toyota LLC ones as suggested previously.

Can get this coolant from Lazada (if you are lazy) or just get it directly from other authorised Toyota parts dealers in you are paranoid about genuine parts

Super long life is 50% premixed and normal long life is undiluted. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Flushing the system will involve more works. If you don't want to remove thermostat you will at least need to remove bypass hose to get most of old fluid out. I don't think it is necessary to flush the system if your car was kept in good condition and never add in any hardwater. Some people would suggest to flush the system with chrisfix style but I don't really find it works best.

To drain and fill or flush, yes you will need to add in fresh coolant over the radiator cap. Don't forget to remove and clean the coolant reservoir too as you can see some white solid substance at bottom of it if it never get wash properly for few years.

Basically its just letting the radiator metal cap opened until it heats up right?

Btw, can we put R.O water like SeaMaster drinking water to mix with coolant?

Let the radiator cap opened, run the engine and let the fan cycle atleast 3 times.
I usually put a funnel at the radiator and fill it till the funnel also have water.
So when air bubbles are escaping, coolant will enter.
Try taping at the base, so it won't leak.

Use battery water, the one you buy to top up maintenance type battery.
Is actually distilled water.
