i am facing no GPS signal recently and i thought it was my phone problem. previously, it was fine and the GPS problem happened just 3 weeks ago.
Good to know i am not the only one facing such issue. I suspect umobile did something to their AGPS setting maybe, but not sure.

may i know what phone are you using?

i'm using xioami redmi note 4 snapdragon

some how u mobile seems to be aware of the issue. i called them, they adviced me to change the data to 3g ONLY, and then select manually the network selection, which is 'u mobile 3g' ... and said that the 4g is not stable.

I don’t think GPS is a service provided by telco? Although GPS is making use of the cell tower for better positioning.

GPS only is damn slow one, takes 3-5 minutes to get any sort of lock (and only works with good GPS, you're using a Xiaomi which normally have terrible GPS).

EDIT: Wah just saw your video. Jia lat that's a horrible problem. Try another sim card?

i had another xiaomi phone, old redmi 1s, using celcom line without data plan, locks within 3 seconds. almost every time. sometimes take longer time.

not sure if it's the phone problem or u mobile....

if it is phone prb... why it can lock instantly when i turn on flight mode?
if it is telco prb, why sometimes when it locks (end of the video) it is able to lock?

it is frustrating.

i am using moto x style. didn't used to had such a problem before until like 3-4 weeks back and i thought it's time to change phone  shocking.gif
Luckily i came about your post.

And i've been using 3G-only all this while (since umobile's 4G is not that fantastic).
Anyways, will see if there are other settings on the phone which i can tinkle around.

Have you tired using an app called GPS Status to clear the internal GPS state and re-download a-gps data? i saw this solution being recommended on the Waze help page, but so far the problem persisted.
*
their 4g is a pain. many times the phone shows 4g status, but is slower than 3g! and i also experience disconnection when it comes to 4g. like while i was streaming bfm in LRT.. i noticed the streaming cut off and everytime it cuts off, it is showing 4G on the bar..

i've been using GPS test and GPS status both apps, what i notice is that whatever apps you're using it will be the same, the apps basically just show you what the hardware and OS is working on with the GPS signal. i used both apps to clear the internal GPS state and update also shows the same result. when 1 of them shows connect.. the other shows connected too.. and waze will start working.

i noticed twice already, on my way to airport using elite highway.. the GPS signal lost somewhere near exit 608 .. like probably 5km before that exit. that's the time i suspect u mobile could be the culprit of GPS signal lost.

Same issue happening on my wife's phone (Redmi Note 4 on Umobile P38). Waze cannot lock into the gps signal. Exact situation as per your video.

However, issue not happening on my phone (Redmi Note 2 on Umobile P38).

Will try to troubleshoot further and post if I come across any solutions.

appreciate your feedback.

you will need to get the GPS signal locked first before you could use any of the apps.

my friend is using webe on redmi note 4 snapdragon malaysia set and claim there are no such issue. but his wife's redmi note 3 is having GPS signal lost almost all the time.. and she's not using u mobile. can't remember which telco she was using.

I notice the phones that have issue are redmi note 3 and 4. Could that be the issue?

I am using Samsung note 8 without  issue. My waze navigate works immediately.

hmm, you are right too. so far i only checking forums of xiaomi and u mobile. i haven't check other phone brands regarding this issue.

here is what I gathered from the Mi Forum :

http://en.miui.com/thread-770879-1-1.html

Can you confirm that you are on MIUI 8.5.4.0 ? If yes, probably is the bug issue. I will check on my wife's phone later on the MIUI version.
*
Mine is 8.5.8.0 NCFMIED ..

some claim miui 9 also faces same prb on redmi note 4...
