if i have to choose over the ego of not borrowing money from my mom and having 'almost' the best pc i can have for today, im choosing the later no doubt. of course, if ur really going for the best, there is really no limit, this is just my limit. i mean, lets be honest, stack in some dual/quad processor server boards and load all of them with xeon quad cores with some stupid shit like 8 gb ddr 1.2ghz rams and quad sli ultra. go guess the price of this thing alone. not even counting monitor/speakers etc etc.

Actually, with my current rig, i'm trying to balance power and quietness so I'm hardly fazed by the mention of an all out brute force machine and I hardly need to game at 2560x1600@16AFx4AA. Besides.. it's hard to be jealous of your rig when there's so much better on the modding forums. Especially with that ooooh.. really expensive sounding Ikea stuff tagged on at the end classy

Added on May 26, 2007, 9:03 amive been to the modding forums and people that has pc that is on par or better than mine is prolly less than 5 or they just dont post much for me to notice. so try better. the most notable person is cstkl1 (http://forum.lowyat.net/user/cstkl1) and hes someone to look up to when it comes to spending on your computer.

and if you want to balance between quietness and power, its not gonna work anymore for nowdays pc. ive tried it, and gave up. GTX runs at 70-90celcius on load, and there is no idle time for ur gfx card anymore if you use vista, which would crank up its regular temp higher than avg.

if you cherish ur part's lifespan, or you want to oc (which is the most cost effecient way on getting a powerful pc), you will need cooling, and that comes with noise, unless ur goin watercooling, in which is troublesome for the most part since you have to mod the case a lil, and the radiator and pump still produces noise anyways. not to mention watercooling cost a lot more than traditional fans.

lets be realistic here, unless ur sticking to just WoW, or ur not much of a gamer, then yes, it doesnt matter. but if you do care bout other games, it will. LP:EC alone raped my rig to a crappy 20-30 avg FPS and busted my 2gb rams that i thought is more than enough (if ur on WoW it is, only 50-60% ram consumption) to around 95-98% ram consumption. COH(company of heroes) worse, constant 98-99% ram consumption and its a dx9 RTS game, constantly R/W'ing from Vrams, which is slow, and bottlenecking FPS.
