I don't get the jokes. Punchline failed for me because I have no Comicket experience so I can't relate.

I don't think many of us have comicket experience. But you do learn alot from ep12 and if you watch Genshiken you will also know how "troublesome" comicket is. I for one won't go there since i'm not much of a doujin guy, but Wonderfest was manageable for me. wink.gif

Sigh, I wonder how many people here actually get the jokes in Lucky Star. Like I just find out that Tommy Lee Jones is in joke reference to the current MIB like coffee ad campaign in Japan in ep 11. This anime is very Japanese and let's admit it, even fluent Japanese speakers did not get all the jokes in this show either.

I don't know about you people, but it is hard for me to laugh when I don't get the punchline.

Admittedly I only got like 30-40 percent of the jokes so far in Lucky Star.

One thing for sure though, this anime is excellent study of Japanese sociology on pop culture.

It depends on your knowledge of animes, mangas, games, japanese culture, etc.

I laugh not only the jokes, but the way the seiyuus do their part, especially Konata nod.gif

I don't know. For me there are no punchline in this anime. It's the way that it's decipted that it's funny. You don;t have to know any reference to get the jokes in Raki Suta. The jokes comes naturally, like how you interact with a friend, what a person with this kind of personality will react to a certain situation, etc. That's the power of Raki Suta. Many japanese friends that I talked with liked Raki Suta because of just that. It's everyday life.

For example the doujin scene with Kagamin, If you are a girl and you are given a gay book, how would you react? it's just that simple. You don't have to go searching for every reference it makes because it has nothing to do with it in the first place. The reference while funny, is just a booster. By itself it's not funny, but given a funny situation the reference will boost taht funny scene. But hey, it's your call. It's not like I'm forcing you to watch this. Just that some ppl have different way watching animes. Some like you need to figure out certain things before you found it funny while others like me just go with the flow and throw our logic out of the window.

In teh meantime, go back a page and read my ep 13 spoilers for more funnies without reference.

Agreed. I think knowing the references is just a bonus. The rest of the show is slice of life. Its just nice to see them and their reactions. wink.gif

To each of his/her own then. I am kinda guy preferred to know before I can laugh or feel anything. Yeap, product of being bookworm and researcher here, couldn't help it.

Reading them referrences thread over places like Animesuki does make me appreciate the cleverness behind the scenes, sometimes, like the Kyon's voice actor and Sagara's voice actor promoting trading cards of themselves in ep.12. I chuckled when I read about it over there.

btw, the Gunbuster's BGM they play now and then (the one with the heavy drums) is loving EPIC.

Also, for those who understands chinese, go get the chinese subs for ep.13. It's so filled with Japanese referrences, I doubt afk could properly translate it this time around:

^ oh f***, Japanese idioms! how would you translate that, afk! and they spoke quite alot regarding this idiom too!

also, Konata's very Amerikkan for not eating traditional Japanese stuffs during new year's eve/new year itself. She eats them self made pasta and pizzas with her dad:

For once, chinese subs prevails rclxm9.gif
unfortunately, it usually takes them longer to finish subbing an episode due to the reference finding.
But i don't really mind the wait.

yes, not all can read chinese tho. I for one cannot understand one word of their kanji. Ironic that I learnt japanese and neglecting to learn chinese. The best part is, I don't have to wait for either subs to come out to watch this. laugh.gif
No subs wins over english and chinese subs anydays

LOLDONGS just preview samples, not actual release. Otherwise, my favourite lurking area would've had someone who Rapidshare'd the whole thing.
