QUOTE(desastar @ Oct 1 2017, 01:40 PM) OK, my tips for you is do it patiently.Repainting is not Rockey science, it only require perseverance. Redo when you are not satisfy. Other then getting zinc based primer, it's just like any other quality paint job. Sanding, wash, paint, sanding, wash, paint, sanding, wash paint 5 coats minimum. 9 coats is about right. Oh ya, strip every component including the headset... 4 weeks tops… What paint do you intend to use? Are you going to paint brush? Air spray? Spray can? Powder coat? When it comes to painting, I only believe in surface preparation. And correct paint and primer selection. Brand don't really matters… This post has been edited by KenC: Oct 1 2017, 03:09 PM |

QUOTE(KenC @ Oct 1 2017, 02:38 PM) OK, my tips for you is do it patiently. Ken, what do you mean by "wash"? As it water? I was thinking spray can, but if that is not the best, then maybe powder coating? Spray can finish may not be durable?Repainting is not Rockey science, it only require perseverance. QUOTE(rkhairulrijal @ Oct 1 2017, 03:39 PM) The spray can that I used are 2Ks which must be used within a week after purchase. It is filled into aerosol cans only after you choose your color by the shop here that specializes in auto paints. I did ask about polyurethane clear lacquer but the shop said it hardens too fast and not encouraged. But the clear lacquer they sell me are quite good, super high glossy finish but needs at least 3 coats. Also, although the aerosol can is the normal size, I only use about 60 percent (guess work) because I don't want to risk big droplets spraying out as the pressure is soft by this time. They sell the paints at 22 bucks per can and clear coat is 19 bucks. I usually use 1 can color paint and 2 cans clear coat. How I wish I have a compressor or I would use epoxy paint and clear coat. It's even harder than powder coating after adequately dried. Just like fibre glass resin, the epoxy paints also use a catalyst for hardening (timing is crucial) and there's a time frame to spray and clean the nozzle. The regular anchor brand is good but they scratch very easily as they are not really hard. This post has been edited by etigge: Oct 1 2017, 07:11 PM |

Just as well, I was going to use hardware shop spray can. Ok ok, I'll look into it.How I wish I have a compressor or I would use epoxy paint and clear coat. Will post some pics when I'm done. Thanks!! |

Automotive paint is what I would recommend too. 2k clear coat is bullet proof.I'm waiting for the frame to arrive then strip the paint and see what is left. Will post some pics when I'm done. Thanks!! If you use chemical stripping, conceal the frame in the biggest garbage bag you can find after you apply the paint stripping liquid. Leave it overnight or as per instruction. It also make housekeeping easier, just leave the scraped paint in the bag. If you get orange peal or tear drops, don't worry, sand it with 200# wet sand paper when the paint dried hard enough. Re-coat after washing and degreasing. It's always better to under-spray than over-spray. This post has been edited by KenC: Oct 1 2017, 11:20 PM |

Forgot to mention, you can make a makeshift spray booth by cutting up a paper box that your bike frame can fit into.
When painting, 70% of the work is in surface preparation, 28% in cleaning up the aftermath, 1.5% in keeping wind away and 0.5% in the actual painting. This post has been edited by KenC: Oct 2 2017, 12:51 PM |

QUOTE(azamunekurone @ Oct 2 2017, 07:39 PM) jalong tinggi done that before. but until 3rd village (kg kenang if im not mistaken) people said got kg zainal (forgot also the last kg) but after kg kenang the road are very slippery.. I followed the Ipoh group there but can't finish the ride. They started from Kg. Kenang, parked the cars at the school there. From there, go back down a little then turn left and ride along Sungai Kerbau. It's tarmac all the way. The gradient was too steep for me and I gave up just a few km from the last village.if i got mtb, of coz will go there.. |
