Hi, previously forget to reply u. Can I know from which seller u bought the bike? Can send me the link? And what shipping method u use? Would like to sell my MTB and get this instead

Thanks a lot!
*
And i use forwarder agent for shipping, It's cheaper compare to the official shipping from taobao.
Will send the forwarder and taobao seller link for you.

If you wanna save the hassle, i had seen someone on facebook group is selling.

I saw once at bbs, somewhere around 2.3-2.5k...
Thanks, looking forward for your link.
Anyway, u use sea shipping or air shipping?
*
I think it's cheaper now, saw somebody selling for 2.1k. Can buy frame only and built part by part also.
I will choose to buy local to save the hassle to be honest.

I use air shipping.
The agent i use offer a charges base on half of the actual weight and half of the size weight, and it's actually cheaper compare to sea ship.
Cost me around RM200

QUOTE(KenC @ Oct 17 2017, 07:13 PM)
What's your tax rate?
*
Didnt kena tax because i use shipping agent. They can settle most of the taxation issue.
They can even bring in sensitive item that taobao official shipper not allow.

Thanks a lot bro! Got your PM.
I will try and contact those sellers and agent, see which one is cheaper or less hassle to deal with.

As my location is at sarawak, dont know how much the shipping cost  sweat.gif

Your FGC is 9 or 10 speed? enough gears compared to 18 speed KA16?
I know more is better, but i would rather get lighter as i dont climb much
*
Mine is 9 speeds. And i upgrade to Fnhon 3D handlepost also.

Don worry about the gears. 9 or even 8 speeds is enough, just make sure u choose for 11-28 for cassette. More gears doesnt mean lighter gear, more gears only translate to smoother cadence transition, which very important in long distance road bike ride, but in small wheels bike, the difference is too small.
Hence no point for 11 speeds.

If you are worry for climbing, choose smaller chainring. Mine come with 53T, pair with 11-28 9 speeds cassette, 349 wheels, it's actually the same gear inches as 34x28T, 700C wheel. So i can climb almost any hills that i tried with RB, just that much more slower la.
The only downside is this frame does creak when climb (very common problem for side fold foldie), which i cannot tahan. So i use this for chill and commute ride.

its not the frame la i think... my ka16 also had the same sound, but it came from my handlepost last time i climbed jerai. flat road also small2 climb no problemo...wanna test fraser this sabtuday... icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Yeah, quite common for side fold frame. Last time my tern B7 also creak. Then Dahon eezz vertical fold system doesn't. So I think it's common for side food frame. My handle post was creaking, solve the creakin sound after grease and tighten it.

oh? i thought u setup it like your tern, using all high end stuff. I saw a lot bike with 8 speed come with 11-32 cassette, while 9 speed and above, mostly with 11-28. Thinking of 8 speed 11-32, wonder if the gap is big between cogs..
I am eyeing at same gear ratio as you also. Nice point there on 11 speeds.
How to calculate gear inch? want to try calculate how much gear inches there are on my rb and mtb, and see the foldie's cassette enough for me or not.

Nice bike. My intention for the bike is for commute. MTB commute not too convenient during parking at workplace. And if go back home rain, hard to put mtb in friend's car.. sweat.gif

https://www.sheldonbrown.com/gear-calc.html
U can check here or just download apps from your phone. My foldie lightest gear is the same as my RB. Of cause heaviest gear can't compare. So climbing is not an issue.

U can't use 11-32 on this frame tho. 16" wheel is too low to use medium cage/long cage.

In my opinion, the Fraser's Hill route is the best I have ridden, apart from Kuala Tembeling to Kuala Tahan (which is a bit far for regular rides). I have even ridden this route on Wednesdays which was even more fun because there are less traffic going up or coming down. The whole route (starts from KKB town) is 6 kilometers to the dam (don't be a hero here as the climbs are quite long, treat this as a long warm up) , another 6 km (flattish plus downhill) to Sungai Chilling. From here onwards it is a 20 km gradual climb all the way to Gap Station with a few, just a few steep climbs, usually at the hairpin turns, other than that it's all gradual which can be ridden even with single chain ring bikes.

After that, it's up to you to do that last steep 8 km up to the clock tower. This is torturous after the 32 kilometers ride from KKB. I usually don't do the last 8 as it's not fun. The momentous clock tower pictures, I already done twice so there's no point for me to do the last 8 km anymore as I don't enjoy it. After that , it will take you only 40 minutes to reach back KKB, the only climb is the dam. After the dam, you can do 50 kmh or 60 kmh all the way back to town. I have done 13 rides here as I enjoy the cooling ride in the mornings as the sun is shaded by the mountains in the mornings. I encourage you to do this ride. It's not as hard as most says. As long as you are good with your gearings, you will be fine.

There are many KKB folks (usually mtbs) who can ride up and back within 3 hours. My first time from KKB to the peak took me 5 hours, rested an hour up there and then that dreading climb from the clock tower to the rear exit. Careful at the descending road as it is a bit 'keras'  mega_shok.gif  Then after GAP it is all the way down, down,  down till Sungai Chilling again. Later rides, it took me 4 hours 30 minutes with lunch at the peak.

I would suggest for first timers, park your car in Sungai Chilling. Skip the first 12 km. The route there is all uphill for 20 km till GAP. The good part is , it is also OK for newbies as IF you can't reach GAP , the way back to the car is all downhill, so not much of a problem. Once you can do this, then can try from KKB.  thumbup.gif

When I was in KL, it takes me one hour to actually drive to Hulu Langat or Putrajaya to ride. KKB is about 70 minutes if I start early, so KKB is not really considered far.
*
A fren and me planning to do KKB- Bentong - Sempah - Gombak - Ampang/Bangsar. The main reason is both of us hate drive and ride. He's much more fitter than me and im stil in preparation training. I had never tried fraser before so i have no idea how tough it is.

We had done a few ride at langat from ampang/bangsar (He's from bangsar and i stay at ampang) Apparently riding straight to hulu langat is even nice compare to drive. Altho the weather is hot during way back but the morning session is a breeze. Downhill at bukit ampang is so much fun.

Fraser is like Perez but a bit longer. If you can do Perez - Bukit Hantu loop with a breeze, then it should be no problem for you to tackle Fraser.

Bukit Ampang is a death trap.
*
Just don go all out when downhills. Lookout point to batu 14 got a new resurface Tarmac and very nice. Only to becaful at the last stretch, after the flat as people park their car and walk over to wet market opposite the flat.
Lookout point to ampang yes have to extra caution. Road condition and traffic is tough

but my main criteria is to fit into a ikea dimpa bag, if 349 can fit i will buy
*
My FGC 1609 with 349 wheel can fit easily. Even easy if you use qr pedal/foldanle pedal.
I need my spd touring clipless pedal so it's not that flat when pack with dimpa bag.

The dimpa bag is better compare to those china red while blue bag, material is the same but dimpa have reinforce some part plus the zip opening is much kore bigger. Practice a few time and i can fit my bicycle in less than 10 mins.
Plus my helmet also

how how 349 or normal 16" wheelset?
*
I was on 16" 305 before this, with Dahon eezz D3, and 349 now with fnhon FGC.
I prefer 349 as the diff between 305 and 349 for compact is very minimal. even minimal on side folded frame.

The 349 roll better and i can maintain the speed easier compare to 305.

If you cant decide, get both devil.gif

hunt for a used dahon chromoly framed bike. really comfy for touring/long distance travelling. maybe need to increase your budget a bit. but it'll be well worth it.
*
There's a korean used item store nearby Ampang selling a Dahon D7 with dirt cheap price.
I had check and most part is alright, Might only need to replace chain and cassette, maybe tire as well.

It's a super good deal from what i see. Been tempted to get but i have too many bikes at home biggrin.gif

as promise before,
i want to share images how to fit fnhon zephyr ka1618 with 349 wheels into ikea dimpa bag. sorry for the late post, i've been busy with kayuhan negaraku event held here at Seri Iskandar, Perak..

so here we go,
1st of all, my fnhon zephyr ka1618 fitted with 349 wheelset, non folding pedals and 31.5cm handlepost height bundle with the frame (i asked for 31.5cm height instead of 39cm by default). so when i wanted to fold inside the handelpost and handlebar touched my chainstay and make the fold bigger than it should be. so for conclusion, i need to buy at least 35cm height handpost, or buy the adjustable height handlepost or buy a fold outside handlepost. since this is my project bike and used for santai only, so no need for me to buy another handlepost.

user posted image
1st attempt, failed..cant close the bag  bangwall.gif

so i try to fold inside the handlepost and take out the seatpost

user posted image

2nd attempt like this one also failed!! vmad.gif

so i put outside the handlepost like 1st time i do it, but this time i pull out the seatpost. and the result

user posted image
it can fit! thumbup.gif

as for conclusion,
the dimpa bag can easily fit fnhon zephyr ka1618 with 305 wheelset and normal tradition fold inside handlepost. u will get below 10kg bike with those setup. lucky me, with 349 wheelset also i got total weight of 9.5kg easily.
*
My FGC 1609 with 349 wheelset+34cm handle post can fit in the dimpa bag nicely with certain angle to put in. try to fully open up the zip and fit the tire properly at the bottom part of the bag, should be quite easy to fit without remove the seatpost tho.

What's your chainring and cogs size?

I used to ride a eezz D3, 3 speeds, with the chainring limited to max 42t. 9-11-13T behind.
For me 40t pair with 9-11-13 is the best combination. i can tackle most of the hills with no problem. Slow but light enough to climb.
Tried Mayor hills, pantai hills, langat perez, duta hills etc.

Too bad nowadays, foldie groups are mostly closed groups. You have to be a friend or brought by a member friend on rides. And also most of the active groups that I noticed are those Brompton groups. My advice is that you must be able to ride at least a certain distance (like 15km to 20km) before you actually join others for their regular rides. Unless off course , you have a buddy friend from that group who will take care of you. For starters, I think you can drive to Putrajaya and ride around the lakes there regularly, maybe meet some riders and get to know them. Once you are quite confident, you can check FB for Happy Cycling group that rides every Wednesday nights around KL, hunting for food.

Malaysian cycling scene is quite splintered and there's no main singular large group to actually steer the activity. Too much gossips and petty issues, bound to happen with so many kinds of people around.

I am not throwing cold water on the issue but let things go naturally. If you don't have friends doing the same, just ride on your own first till you group up with some others. It will happen , don't worry. Maybe other riders here can give you an invite to ride on their rides.........Anyone ? I used to take newbies to Putrajaya when I was in KL but I am in Taiping now, so I can't now.

Back track to the older treads and you can find the Putrajaya map. It's quite scenic and very safe, no traffic at all. Happy RidingĀ  thumbup.gif
*
I tried a few group in KL and narrowed down to a few that i like. Started with JW cyclist at friday night, mostly MTB but it's newbie welcome.
But make sure know how to handle traffic on road, even tho with sweepers.

After awhile i moved to bangsar cycling group, every tuesday. IMHO they are very newbie friendly and one of the best group that i joined so far. Everybody speak english so no language barrier.
Too bad they decide no more downtown ride start from 2018. Most of us getting into serious road biking and hilly route.

I have been in their FB of BGC for quite some time now, i am just wondering if i am able to keep up with the rides, i ride roadbike too,,,

For tuesday night, we have the last downtown ride next week, tomorrow will be hills bombing ride.
It's not a super fast elite group like NATO or BJCC. Most of us aim for endurance. Alot of audax participant.

The only diff is there's no sweeper, as i'm familiar with the route, sometime i even do the hills bombing with my foldie. If you are riding RB with average fitness, shouldnt be a problem to catch up.

Weekend normally will be higher intensity(not extremely high also la). 28-30 avg on flat with alot of hills. Our favorite route is bangsar-bkt ampang-bkt hantu-perez-bukit ampang-bangsar.
