Guys, need your input - I am using a 2014 Moto G as bicycle computer and bought a magene gemini 210 as Bluetooth cadence sensor.

What would be your suggestions for a compatible app that can show current speed and cadence? I have Strava app but it doesn't show current, only average speed and I am not riding hard enough to pay for Strava Summit.

I am currently using Cycledroid but it doesn't support sensors. Tried Cateye app but the screen does not stay on. Cyclemetre and Mapmyride not supported on that old phone. Garu kepala already.

last time, before i had cycling gps meter
i had this bluetooth biologic speed and cadence sensor i used runtastic for roadbike. it does display cadence and also even connected to display on my sony smartwatches. problem same like strava, sometimes our phone gps a bit crazy and not too accurate thus resulting mapping a bit gila. speed is ok coz the sensor is build with speed.

fedup with this condition, i upgrade to bryton and those sensor can be used without any problem. laugh.gif

read from google app store, plenty of complaint about bryton apps... something about missing records, records dont sync etc. so even if the cycle comp is good, but the data dont get transferred out oso problem. which bryton model you're using?

dont know about the info,
but mine never failed. maybe the mobile apps failed sometimes but i never had that bad experience. yeah i know the mobile apps are rather lousy and boring, but i only need the apps to sync data on it and later autosync to strava. most of the time i only used strava to see the data, unless i wanted data for cadence i do had to open back to bryton apps. the 1st gen bryton mobile apps super boring than this new one and i've been using it since the begining.

oh ya,
i do have encountered 2 or 3 times data wont sync. problem solve when i logout and login again bryton apps and sync it back. each ride i must sync to avoid crash or sistem hang if stored too many data without sync. the reason why i buy bryton bcoz of the battery life are longer than garmin or any brand.

i had 2 unit of it. one is rider 310 and another is rider 410
the rider 310 only support ANT+ sensor, while 410 does support Bluetooth and ANT+ sensor without any problem. my rider 310 if im not mistaken is around 3 years old now and still rocks without any problem.

if u want cheap gps meter, u can try igpsports. few of my friends here in ipoh using it. the meter interface are not friendly (also cant customized) like garmin or bryton but it does it job on display or speed even upload it to strava automatically. problem with igpsports is the gps are not soo strong like bryton and also the sensor sometimes conflict with other sensor around. besides that, the igpsports work like charm. i wont recomended bryton rider one, ten or 15 bcoz it was too basic. better get the igpsports with many function same price like rider one, ten or 15.
*
thanks for the explanation, i was just about to ask regarding bryton rider one and 15 because that's the cheapest bryton i could find.

They are good entry level no frills Brytons that at least supports your HRM and cadence sensor. If you want customizable screen, then you need to go up to 410 at least.
*
i dont have much demand, i only want to see :
1. travelling speed
2. cadence
3. travelled distance
4. moving time
5. HR

those gradient, elevation, power, calorie etc are not important to me. so between One and 15 which one would fit better?

i am still looking around app to try on my phone though

I thought elevation calculation is handled by the device's barometric altimeter & has nothing to do with GPS?
*
dont know about the cycling comps, but on my phone, it's based on gps lock.

so it is funny when the altitude recorded when i was on a overhead ramp above highway was recorded to be lower than when i am on the highway itself lol

QUOTE(aquilaTE @ Sep 4 2019, 09:41 AM)
I agree with azamunekurone as well in going with the 15 as it has better screen layout and of course, the few additional features. In time, you probably might want more out of your cycling computer and you wished that you had paid a bit more, so future-proofing your purchase is my only advise at this stage.
*
410 about 500-600 leh.... i cant even say for sure how long further will i be cycling.

When I was using Strava on the phone, I was like wow... I'm doing such big altitude gain... but when switched over to a cycling comp, I was like... wtf... it's been a lie and ego booster all along... lol...

But the reason for switching over from phone to cycling comp is as my ride grew longer in distance and time, my phone battery doesn't last and I dun like lugging a power bank on top of what I'm already carrying.

The part whether how long you will be cycling and whether the extra bucks justifies the purchase, I can't provide a straight answer for that. I can only relate to few people who have gone down either outcomes...

noted, thanks for input

Another alternative is to get a smartwatch instead, especially one with barometric altimeter such as Amazfit Pace (around RM500'ish)? The battery will last you at least 5 days & you can even get it for free from the occasional credit card application campaigns on RinggitPlus.
*
500-ish might as well buy that bryton lah. haha.

anyway as i said, i will try out phone apps first, since i dont have to outlay any capital for now. my current rides doesnt exceed 20km/2hours regardless of foldie or road-mtb, so a phone batt should last for this duration.

if i got fitter down the line and managed to accomplish 50kms in a single ride one day, yes, i will buy a proper bicycle comp as achievement reward.

Thanks for the inputs guys!

Bro, mine is still claris la. Not yet upgrade to105 😝
You want my claris groupset?

Like abang Azam said, if you want upgrade you can consider Tiagra /ultegra. 👍😉😉
*
no lah... just trying to pick dead chicken only. honestly i cant tell the difference.
all i know is as long as it shifts properly, it works. doesnt matter apanama groupset to me.
what matters more is my stamina and leg power.

last night the wind was strong and haze has thinned alot so i grabbed the chance to do a 10km exercise. first 5km, lawan angin. avg 12-15kmh at max effort.
then turn back, this time got wind pushing from behind, fuyoh, sipeh syiok, tallest gearing and still can pedal at 70+ rpm achieving 24-30kmh. usually i cant torque much at tallest gears.

Attached Image

so in the end if leg really power, apa groupset pun no longer matter as you are already staying at the final gear and blasting people aside

i only have one opinion - if leg no power, give you 3x11 oso no use. so just get whatever you feel like it first and start training your legs. once your legs are powerful enough, even ride single speed also can tapau the group.

Hehe 3 x. Very confusing indeed too.
I was testing my brother in law bike
I changed gears till chain fell off from rear cassette or front rings. Lol
I really noob at 3x 🤪
I change left and right shifters too fast during inclination , dunno what gears until chain drop many times. 🤪

I'll stick to 2x, more than sufficient on flats. Or even on a bit hilly terrain
*
How can u confuse? Shifter there got indicate ma...

Mine is a 3x8. Most of the time front chainring I only alternate between middle and the largest one. So in a way of saying, it's like a 2x lah. Of this few months of flat road riding, very very rare I would be using the smallest chainring. But it's good to know that you have it when you need it. Like when climbing a steep incline, for example Dragonback 1st and last slope.

Oh ya.. The gear shift indicator. Thanks bro 👍
But my brother in law punya Bike macam don't have this.
His bike macam rojak pasembur , mix and match groupset from front to the back. Modified 99 edi one.
I need to take a closer 👀👀👀look when I pinjam again. 🤪😀
3x8,3x9....i also forgot. I need to count the no. Of cogs again.
*
aiyah then nvm lah... go by feel.

left shifter for crank - thumb for raise, index click for drop
right shifter for cassette - thumb for raise, index click for drop
this should be universal for all mtb/foldie shifter (roadbike punya gua tatau)

when feel hard to pedal, either drop the crank or raise the cassette
when feel pedal too fast, raise the crank or drop the cassette
dont need see indicator, just feel

kawan, disc brake bising when braking how to solve?

i tried cleanning washing and scrubbing with scouring pad, i even replaced with new brake pads. but it it was quiet only for a short while. after that the squeling came back. although it makes no diffeence to stopping distance, but the sound of it is pretty annoying.

plus there is some rubbing at my rear disc which i believe might be slightly bent at one place. is changing the disc the only answer?

what do u use to clean the discs?
what type of brake compound?
what brand is the discs?

u can straighten the disc. lightly push/bend it.
*
Dishwasher liquid + the usual green pads lah

No idea what is the brake pad compound.

No brand disc, the common ones I guess. Came standard on the bike

go ace hardware find brakleen

if still noisy after cleaning, try sintered pads

i find my discs howl when i keep my bikes in storage for a while. i assume dust makes the discs howl. i clean them using IPA before i ride. bed them in first.
i also find my sram discs tend to howl quicker than shimano discs.
*
Brakleen, ok thanks will try it
