6 hour to complete 100km. Most people can do it.
But how many times you can repeat continuously is the question.
It's not really a burden… it's about getting home in time. Before mam besar lock the gate tongue.gif

For 3~5km, any bicycle-look-alike-object will do. Single speed, 6 speed all can. Just look for a bike that fits your budget, old new used, all can.
You should stay away from odd wheel size.
Start cycling as soon as possible. By the time you have a "loose" budget, you will know what to buy.
*Ps, don't buy cheap Foldies if you are over 100kg.

Bike in that range all are alike. but i think for that price, i would go for used japanese bike instead of a new folding bike. 300 to 500 end of the day you are buying something disposable when you grew out of it.

300-500 got plenty, both new and old. just need to manage your expectations.

Forget about odd size, just look for common size 406. Nothing else unless you got free one.

Mudah also a good place to look.
Where are you located?

More head up , don't be sway by number of speeds, more speed only give more headaches. Try get shimano gear components. Shimano is the undisputable king of cheap and reliable low end components.

Hi Sifus,

My bike is Dahon Vitesse 2016 Model i think.
Yesterday i encounter a creaking noise when i push the bike fwd and apply front brake. Its also creaks when i hold the front brake and nudge the bike fwd and back. My initial thought was the the handlepost joint or headset might be loosen in due time and needs retighten.

I did a handlepost screw tightening bout 2 years ago, following guidance from sifus here, when my handle was rocking a bit then.

This time its a creaking sound and handle minute movement when front braking. Tighten up the handle post, fix the loose handle issue, but creaking is still present. Drip a bit of oil into the handlepost and Headset, still creaks.

Then i folded the bike and noticed the joint mechanism seem to have paints rub off the face of the joint ( metal and metal clamping together), which is much more prevalent this time then i last remember. Applied some grease on the 2 spots, tighten the clamping screw and sound is gone.

The question now is:

1) Does our bike periodically need to tighten the clasp body joint, Handle post joint and Headset?

2) The paint wear off in the frame joint..is it normal wear and tear?

3) Does dripping a little oil into the headset causes any problem?

Thx in advance for your advice and comments.

im no sifu, but from my experience:

1. Yes. the main cause is probably road vibration. that nut on handlepost clamp always need re-tightening after some time. we can notice this when try to lock and unlock the clamp. if the clamp feels a bit loose, it's time to turn that nut anticlockwise a little. my dahon do suffer this minor issue.

2. yes. probably caused by the frame flex, and over tightened case.

3. no idea. but i guess it should be ok. all i know is that it should be greased. icon_rolleyes.gif

Thx Fatani,

1) So overtime, if we keep tightened, will comes a point we can't tighthen anymore the screws..what then?

2) I dont have the skills to dismantle the headset, thus thought some slight oil for quick fix..only to find out its the frame joint that creaks.

So, most of the time when the handle feels a bit loose, its the handle post that needs tightening, not headset, right?

Hi guys,

Another question on maintenance..Have u tried the Simple Green Bike Cleaner and Degreaser, for cleaning the chain, gears and chain ring gunks?
If yes, how do you go about it...., spray, let it soaked and blast off with water.

I intend to do it in a least hassle way without dismantling the chains, derailleurs, chainring and sprockets...in short..everything in tact..

Er, we tightened the nut, not screws. I think it should be ok for years unless the bolt/shaft is broken. If that is the case, either weld it back, or find replacement parts, or got new excuse to change handlepost lor.

I have not experienced any prob with the headset yet, so really can't comment on that.
