Hi all,

I've recently job a new job offer. I've signed and email back to the company my offer letter. Now they request me to do pre-employment medical check up.

Question:
1. What test is included for pre-employment medical check up? As I know only urine test and x-ray. Is blood test neccessary?
2. I am actually quite worried, because i just attended recently a comprehensive blood & urine test by pathlab. Results show i have a higher level of LDL (Bad choresterol) and uric acid as well as a bad result for my liver (due to probably lack of sleep, alcohol or smoking). I am actually a non-smoker, but alcohol yes during younger years, now already cut a lot probably 1 can of beer in 1-2 months.. Will all these mentioned results from the testing result in me being rejected the new job offer? Btw, i'm very active in sports (badminton every 3 times in a week, running every month from marathon event)
3. In general my weight is slightly heavier and taller than the average people, will this result me having a higher level of everything compared to the norm chart?
4. Normally how long does it take for clinics to produce the medical check up result? For x-ray & Urine test
5. On what type of illness normally they will reject your job application?

Kindly advise for those who had experience smile.gif Thank you for the enlightenment

I think if you go to any clinics and tell them you need a pre-employment checkup, they will know what to do. It is for the company to have a baseline data of your health when you start working there, in case later you have health issues then wanna claim company compensation then they will refer to this.

Just my 2cents...

Isn't this medical check up for group insurance purpose only so that the insurance know how much to charge? and company can't really discriminate ppl with minor issue that won't affect their job.

Does the doctor give letter or opinion whether I am fit for this job or not? Or they just produce the result on urine and x ray ?

you are not applying job as a pilot or a healthcare worker at a hospital for goodness sakes.

So your check up is not so comprehensive.

Unless you plan to work for Top Glove which disqualify workers based on BMI (one of the factors)

I work for a hr department. The medical tests are subject to the type of job you are involved with. For example, if you are in F&B industry, the tests will include more like stool tests and typhoid injection cos you deal with food products. If only office job, typically test includes blood pressure, cholesterol, blood tests, eye sight and other simple ones. Normally all the tests will be written in the medical letter your company will give to pass to the relevant clinic. If it's not you can ask them cos you have the right to know, it's your body anyway.

High cholestrol, bp, alcoholism, obesity, poor lung function because of smoking is a BIG NO NO. Small tip from what i heard in hr departments is that in the case they know you have high cholestrol or overweight, they will ask you to exercise or go on some good health programmes to resolve the issue before reapplying or taking up the offer IF they really want you.

Medical check up also involves dr asking your family's history of diseases and your exercise habits. In the end of the day, doesn't matter you are active in sports or what, what is important is what the test results tell the doctor whether to deem you as fit or unfit for the job.

Medical test results usually takes a week for the clinic to send to the company provided that it is a good and reputable workplace.

I mentioned some of the illnesses that companies reject on the above already but just to add: HIV is also a no in malaysia unless it is a truly mat salleh company that has clear policies on discrimination. Most companies in Malaysia don't accept. They won't tell that it's cos of the HIV status but they might just say other reasons.

Dont worry based on your description i dont think you will be rejected

unless you have severe illness, then they will reject(depends on insurance provider), else dont think it will be an issue. blood test is usually for sugar level, cholesterol, check blood diseases like STD & HIV, urine for drug test. I think not to worry, unless you have a severe medication. of course I cant speak for you as Ive done pre-employment medical check-up myself, all of it is negative.

Alright just an update for those who want to know further..

Went to Kelana Jaya Medical Centre about 11am.. Reach there register at counter, and they will pass you a bottle for urine sample.. After that, take chest x-ray.. Then waited for about 15 minutes, the MO called me in with all my results.. The MO will fill up the particulars of the report and finally conclude whether you are fit to work or not.. Total cost RM 67 all in..

Bro, how about VERTIGO?

I got an offer letter now in June, already signed, and they ask me to go for medical checkup.
There is 2 copy of questionnaire for insurance need to be filled up - a copy declare by myself, and another copy to be filled up by the appointed doctor.

I was admitted to hospital in back in March'18 due to VERTIGO.
I wanted to declare in my copy of questionnaire.
But the Doctor scold me, and ask me to keep clean in the pre-employment letter. He then "teach" me to be silence if anything not clear, or doubt.
I clarified to him, but still, he think should keep clean in the questionnaire, so he did not write it down in his copy.

But I think nowadays the Insurance record and linkage should be very advance already. Dont think can really cheat on it...

I don't think this is something to worry about for the average person.

However, it would be an issue for people who're involved in drug abuse and /or very poor health lifestyle.

I am Hiv positive and now I am in dilemma. There is MNC oil & gas Co offered me office base position. But have to undergo full medical check-up including HIV test. I already went to the appointed diagnostic centre for consultation and the doctor told me I can't escape any of specified test. But he can put recommendations based on my medical record which is good even excellence. I was diagnosed positive before getting married and live happily with 2 kids but then the question now is should I reveal my status to HR and let them decide? Or decline the offer based on assumptions that the co cannot accept people living with HIV?

From my experience, big company has panel clinic for potential employee to do free pre-employment medical checkup.

Since the company paid for your report, you will not know the result. I just did my med check in BP Healthcare for free. Just basic blood test, urine test, chest x-ray, eye sight, BMI.

After a few days, company called me that I passed the test and e-mail me the offer letter. EZ

For my case, it is confidential to the company and I really dont know what tests they did. They just took my blood samples.

If u r not doing any drugs, should be ok. Heard that some companies dont allow their employees to smoke so good luck.

Hi, I am from Sarawak and I was told by a company need to go BP Healthcare for pre-employment medical check up however I went to the BP healthcare at my area and was told by them they can't perform medical check-up due to lack of medical equipment and doctor. I called all the BP healthcare listed in Sarawak area and received same answer. I want to ask is that normal?

Should not be a problem.

High blood pressure can be controlled with medication and healthy lifestyle practise.

Drs also know you want to cari makan...they know what to write.

Depends on what job you’re doing. Eg. If you’re applying for a PMET role, I don’t think so. If you’re applying to be a fighter pilot, yes.

Non-fasting - how many hours after food? The examining doctor should indicate that it’s a job-fasting sample. Apart from the raised heart rate (because you’re likely a little anxious), the rest of the readings are ok.

A non fasting post-prandial sample of 8.4mmol/l does not indicate diabetes.

About 1.5 hours after food. But actually my health check letter doesn't stated that i must fasting.

I think mine should be fine but what i more worried is panic attack and cause my bp skyrocket.

There’s a simple way to get past that. Take home monitoring BP measurements and record them down over 1 week (buy one of those automatic BP machines) - and show your doctor.

Hi, i just get pregnant about 4 weeks and get a job offer from bank. They ask for pre-employment medical checkup. Is there any possibilities that they will decline the job offer if i’m pregnant? The position i applied for is customer service.

That's illegal (at least in Singapore) - i.e. termination or rescinding a job offer on the sole basis of the female employee being pregnant (congratulations, by the way). HOWEVER, employers can use other sneaky methods to achieve the same goal - and MOM can't do shit about it. For example, claiming that your job performance is poor, or you couldn't meet your KPIs.

Good luck!

Anyone with tb history went for pre employment health check? I got tb and have been recovered few years back but the scarring in the lung will stay forever. I'm now afraid of applying job with big companies who need to undergo health screening. Is there anyone can enlighten me whether someone with tb history will get rejected ?

There’s a simple way to get past that. Take home monitoring BP measurements and record them down over 1 week (buy one of those automatic BP machines) - and show your doctor.

Hey everyone smile.gif

I'm about to undergo a medical check up too. It's office work mostly. My problem's a bit different though, in that I'm quite ways underweight. My BMI is around 16.5?

Does anyone know if that'd cause me to fail the check up?

Nope. BMI isn't an issue. I've worked in recruitment.

Well unless the company is Top Glove, they have a strict BMI requirement.

It depends on the form of medical check up they send to you.
Last time my employer only asked me to do urine test and self-declaration of other diseases. The doctor will then do routine medical check up and that's it.
