Hi guys, first time buying laptop for myself here despite using several in the past at work. I've had some experience in Lenovo, Asus, HP and Thinkpad. Now looking for one for myself for work, a little movies or youtube, etc...gaming is a bonus. But my budget is below 3k.

Looked at some brochures and kinda interested in the following, could get some recommendations from experts with focus mainly on quality, reliability, and maybe warranty? Oh, battery life another bonus. Nowadays they have all kinds of weird warranties - on-site, ADP by Lenovo, Dell ProSupport, etc.

Acer - Acer used to be bad quality in the past but I hear they're getting better these days?
Aspire E15 (E5-575G-525T) - RM2,599

Lenovo - really good quality laptop I've used many years ago. Are they still the same now?
Ideapad 320S - RM2,899 (thin and light series?)
Ideapad 320S-141KB - RM2,799
Ideapad 320-141KBN - RM2,399

Dell - another brand famous in the past, not sure how they are now.
Vastro 14 5000 (5468-20412G-W10) - RM2,899

Asus - used this a couple of years back, passed on to a colleague of mine and its still functioning well.
Vivobook S15 S510UQ - RM2,899 (very interested in this due to its 1.7kg and 17.9mm profile. Might consider the SSD upgrade for RM400)
Vivobook Max x441UV - RM1,899
A Series A456UR - RM2,599

HP - their mid-range laptops seem to be kinda slow on processing for some reason. Had a couple of colleagues using them and all have same complaint.
Pavillion x360 14-ba063TX - RM2,799 (folds to tablet mode AND comes with a stylus!!)
Pavillion 14-al102TX - RM2,799

Ive used ASUS, toshiba, and acer. Bought acer again and regret...so i recommend toshiba since its the best laptop ive compared to those. Almost same spec but acer some how way slower... never know why. Second recommendation is ASUS.. never slow after so many years.

Toshiba not too bad, I've heard good reviews about it. But the thing about this laptop is its difficult to find. Even in Digital Mall SS14 can hardly find. So for this I fear the warranty will be quite a hassle if I need to warranty something...

Many people love to recommend what they love, not what you need.
Maybe 3k laptop is best for someone but may pack unused feature for you.

First please stated your purpose of this purchase, too many type of laptop under 3k, it will confuse you if not stated clearly.

Processor
For simple computing like surf net, FB, office application i3 is enough.
Beware, many will ask for i5/i7 say faster lah, future proof la. Fast PC won't made you type faster.
i3 will handle everything just fine even simple gaming

Screen, how big you need?
13? 14? 15? 17?
Don't ask which size nice, sendiri pls go to store see which made your eye comfortable.

Screen resolution
1366x768? 1600x900? 1920x1080? 4k?
Higher resolution made things clearer, movie, games looks sharper
High res good if you use excel a lot, can see more columns and rows

Battery life
This is important.
How long will use on the outside without finding power outlet or every time have to carry the heavy adapter.

Optical Drive.
Today almost no one use unless you have very special purpose.

Graphics card.
This is HOT topic, thousand will ask you to get one cause they love play games, but do you?
GPU add cost but if you just play DOTA can casual gamer, Intel Iris can do averagely

RAM.
Don't worry, 4GB is standard but if not enough can easily upgrade on most laptop

Storage
This is critical, most 2k laptop will give you HDD.
Hard to tell what HDD speed they give you
Experience single plate HDD before slow like hell.
This really don't know unless you go research their HDD model and google it for spec.
But worry not if later too slow can upgrade to SATA SSD.

i3 + SSD load everything faster (almost everything) than a i7+ slow HDD

Office productions i3 will do just fine.
But I didn't see any i3 + ssd on market for 2.5k

Suggest just go with internal HDD.
Later if too slow then self upgrade to SSD.

I asked some big company like Dell, upgrades HDD won't kacau warranty.

Anothet thing, sometimes people may particular on keyboard comfort. Go shop try the real keyboard.

Lately I heard many good feedback from Asus owner. May tried reading their tread for some insight

Acer Aspire 5 (A515-51G-54RN)

RM2639

A little bit of a stretch but it's worth it. Useful for both work and play. It's the best one for the budget that I can find really

I did say what I want...I just didn't say how you want it to be said mainly because I'm not into that much specifics. And if I already know what specs I want...why am I here and not straight to the shops?

It the laptop is using standard 2.5 inch HDD SATA connection, then yes, you can.
Some super slim laptop use very small HDD then would be more challenging.

It have 2 storage, 1st is the generic 2.5" HDD, which can put a 2.5" SATA SSD on it,
and the 2nd part is the M.2 slot PCI-E slot for another SSD, many claim that this slot DO NOT SUPPORT M.2 SATA , only M.2 PCIe SSD
There are different, go Google it.
