Yeah the Mohs scale of hardness might differ in what you want. For example, in terms of time travelling in sci fi the film Primer (2004) is the most grounded in reality. But if you want sci fi films that question the existence of humanity or morality due to the technologies or science or certain concept introduced then you might like Solyaris (1972) or Gattaca (1997).

My personal favourite though is Moon (2009).
