Hey guys, just want to ask for suggestions on a RWD car that I can find in Malaysia to buy as my first hobby car. Used/Recon is what I'm searching for since I'm going to mod it, budget for the car is around RM20k? is that even possible? if not maybe under 30k? I just need suggestions on RWD cars in Malaysia, really want one. Thanks

At first i thought of recommending you RWD cars but i look at the msg " budget 20k "

gg

Its a matter whether you can find these only but most of them are most likely discontinued in the spare parts. Either you know how to modify and tune otherwise is a waste of money and time.

Honda Civic EG
Toyota Corolla SEG
BMW E36

of the lot, these sound the most practical
most (not all) japs of the boxy 80's were rwd.

other options;

old beemers (common beemers like the e46 and older are under 20k)
old mercs
cefiro's (a31, later models were heavy and fwd)
old volvos
vw beetle (the classics)

if you could double that budget, get an altezza, much newer platform and even stock its a great car. (beams with a manual tranny ofc)

Even at 100k also not easy to find one who wants to sell at that price! It's a very rare car in the market, mostly also asking above 120k, pretty crazy prices! Last year or so got 1 on sale down to 90k but the car cannot start, I heard it had a problem with the immobilizer system, but still finally sold also like that!

Thanks for the reply, just wanted to know more models which are RWD. I can raise the budget no problem, just wondering if any at that price point. I've looked at Altezza and im pretty interested in it. Thanks again smile.gif

If you have budget for Altezza then that's the best choice I think. The price is pretty high though for such an old car.

(Daily driven car). Own since early 2000.
Plate 933.

Both car use new part only, no chop shop part (engine n performance part), and both come with plenty of spare (fender, door, bumper, boot, bonnet n so on).

BMW E46 should fit we'll in your criteria.
Car is not too old (compare to othersthe costumers recommendation on those Jap oldies model) and price within your budget range too.
Last badge of model is made in year 2005, spare part still plenty of availability, especially from Bavaria Auto or online shop. Worse still chop shops can easily find its part too.
If really want to buy one, makeI sure get a M54Bxx, 6 cylinders model, try avoid the 4 cylinders model.
Good luck.

Most Mx5 owners has more than 1 car. They just let their Mx5 sleep at home. During weekend drive only come out. Owners just enjoy the car for what it is,that's why many are reluctant to part with it.

I used to remember when I was younger there was many Mx5 roaming in kl. Maybe 10-15 years back

If you want to venture into RWD, a Toyota Corolla KE70 sedan is the way to go. The car by itself is cheap. RM1500-RM5000 stock depending on condition. Spend at least RM3-5K on rust removal & dent & paint. About RM7-RM10K on a 4AGE transplant. Some more money on better suspension system. Basically the KE70 is almost 90% AE86 underneath. You can play with engine, suspension tuning & wheel tire combos for almost cheap. But don't expect the car to be super fast on straights. But its is fun to drift around. You can see this guy play around in his almost stock engine KE70. Yes you can have fun for cheap if you know what you are doing. Its basically a banger for you to experiment and experience.

Your choice of Altezza is also good. But this car has quite limited choice in tuning. Not a lot of people stock tuning parts for this. And most cars in Malaysia are automatic. 6 speed tranny is rare. And i don;t think you can buy one for RM20K.

If you want something to impress people and drive to impress yourself, i doubt the KE70 will be the car you want. Its basically a downgrade. Even an AE86 is a downgrade as its not going to be any faster than almost everything on the road these days. But it is a car to learn some things that you never been able to do before.

Hey thanks for the reply! I looked at KE70 and I saw how much potential it has as a hobby/fun car where I can tune a lot and have fun with it being cheap. Looked at a Nissan Cefiro A31 and that's basically the best bet for me to have a car I can still cruise around and still go sideways. Most of them that are for sale are under 20K with RB20's and turbo ready builds, I dunno. Right now I'm just looking at BMW e30 for a nice drive car and with a welded diff I can go sideways, parts I got a lot of suggestions to use Bavarian Auto. The Nissan Cefiro on the other hand, I have a bunch of friends that are JDM parts traders so I can get a hold of those parts easily. and finally the KE70 where I can have fun and learn drift tuning in an environment where I can somehow afford to do mistakes? if that is the word I'm looking for anyways. haha. Thanks guys biggrin.gif

The Nissan Cefiro on the other hand, I have a bunch of friends that are JDM parts traders so I can get a hold of those parts easily. and finally the KE70 where I can have fun and learn drift tuning in an environment where I can somehow afford to do mistakes? if that is the word I'm looking for anyways. haha. Thanks guys biggrin.gif

hoho... when recomending those machines earlier, i would like to make it clear to you, some of them in the list can be trickier to deal with....

am not sure what kind of car you want to end up with, something to refurbish and build up or something thats just to trash and mess about with and have fun in

ke's - easy to maintain, very hardy car, nothing much can go wrong, its also relatively cheap and you only need to worry bout rust. If you want a car to trash cheaply, this is really the best option.

a31's with the rb20 will be alot more complicated and expensive to maintain. You do mention you have friends dealing with parts (btw i need to know these guys!!! i have to be your best friend now biggrin.gif ) so you should really ask them how much the bits cost. Remember its a 6 potter with a turbo. I dont think you can find an sr20 instead of an rb powered unit, but if you can, its a better option imo. Interior and little trim bits can also be difficult to source.

beemers, well as im sure you know this is a german car, so you should know what to expect, even if its as mechanical as can be.
