Go free if you like. AVS, AntiVir, Avast, AVG, ClamAV/ClamWin.
NOD32, Kaspersky,BD are good Proprietary AV software. Cheers! |

AntiVir is a step below Kaspersky, but way ahead of many other AVs. AVS uses the Kaspersky Engine. Almost perfect.
NOD32 has the best heuristics. Kaspersky has one of the world's most accurate signatures for malware. Choose which one you like. Be more detailed in request. You've got a lot of RAM to spent? OR what? There are many aspects when it comes to AV choosing. Cheers! |

In fact, you might be asking way too much at a go. AV = Time-Tested Combo of mine = NOD32, AntiVir AND/OR Avast Good and RELIABLE AVs:- 1. Kaspersky 2. AOL AVS 3. NOD32 4. AntiVir etc... 2. AM(Anti-Malware) - Many will argue on this statement, but having Free AM does clear off the OLD School Malware... 1. Spybot Search & Destroy 2. Ad-Aware 3. SpywareBlaster 4. (Highly Recommended) AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 [Why? It uses EWIDO Engine] 3. Firewall -I can't comment on this. I use ZA 6.1, which is the most stable version. 6.5 and above has BSODs and all. Please do read up on Member Comments. Suggested: Outpost, Jetico, Comodo, PC Tools ... Vista/Xp--- Can use most of the above... Choosing AV? You've got 1GB DDR2 RAM. Go get Kaspersky. If you want your computer to run fast, without experiencing slowness/Lag (Chances are very slim), use NOD32 On Choosing AVs, you either weight between:- Accuracy/Less False Positives/"Best" in Short <---------> Speed/Lagness... 1. Most Accurate ......... 5. Fastest Give a Rating between 1-5, Maybe I can Choose one for you. Cheers! |

Well, what natakaasd is right..but..I want to mention something here:-
- always scan your usb drive each time you copy/share with your friends...USB drive is one of the most popular way for virus to spread - update your antivirus! even your computer is armed with best/good antivirus, but if you don't update it..also useless - don't download or open files that you're not knowing where the source file came from...scan it first before use, especially those files from p2p source, such as BT, emule..etc |

If you somehow got yourself infected, Please do download this tool made by our most respected Moderator, sUBs, namely, Flash Drive Disinfector. No update AntiVirus, don't bother to install one. It is useless. Proven Fact. Cheers! |
