First, it's CRT, big, huge, hot and bright. Colors look great and it was good enough for everyone.

Then ppl started to whine about it's XBOX HUGE SIZE, it's HOT like a sun temperature and it's eye blinding light. So people started to work on an alternative.....

It came ... in the form of LCD, the first LCD however ...... SUX!! Viewing angles are horrible, if you stand anywhere BUT straight at the LCD panel, you'll see practically nothing. But then ... improvements!! Color started to look better, viewing angles are increased, blackness is blacker and colors are more vibrant.

But .... to many, it's a flawed technology on the get go. Color banding, shadowing, dead/lazy pixels, response time and back light bleeding makes even a meager CRT better than the most expensive LCD when it comes to accurate color representation.

As of today, no uber expensive LCD can shoot down a decent CRT. Sure it's slimmer, sure it's not so hot, bigger viewable area ...... but for serious gamers, graphic designer, artist .... It just doesnt quite cut it.

It's not all that bad, LCD has it's advantages, and every year there's more improvements by major manufacturers to make it even more attractive. In the form of higher contrast ratio, wide screen format, faster response time, better and accurate color representation, lesser back light bleeding, etc.

However .... one wonders .... is there no better solutions to the many issues of LCD and CRT? Oh but there is.... there's quite a few actually.

SED, FED, OLED, etc. The next generation of better, faster, orgasmic inducing monitors. mhhhh.

but wait... what's this?

SED, in layman's term. it's tiny CRT tube cramped into a flat panel. Hence a FLAT CRT, so to speak. Equipped with all the greatness of CRT and none of it's weakness.

Problem: Nano Proprietary developed SED, canon approached them in hope of mass producing SED monitors. But canon backhanded Nano by sharing information related to electron emissions from carbon nanotubes with Toshiba. Nano is pissed, hence LAWSUIT. The legal mumbo jumbo dragged on and on and on ............ we were suppose to be able to buy our very first SED monitor early 2006, but all the production facility of toshiba and canon are left to rust and cannot do anything due to the lawsuit. Nano wants to settle out of court, but canon is confident that they will win the case. So it drags and drags and drags and well ..... lets just say by the time SED comes out, your kids would be using it. NOT YOU!!!

ok, lets put SED aside, we still have OLED right? It looks promising right?

Problem: Oh really? the "O" in OLED stands for organic, and like all organic things, it is subjected to organic decay (in a way). So OLED monitors, though bright and vibrant and slim .... isnt matured enough to be marketed ... there are improvements in the development of OLED, the average lifetime of OLED monitors has been increasing, so its not exactly a flawed technology, maybe in time, it will be perfected. But again the "T" word. I mean "TIME". HOW MUCH TIME?!! 5 years?!!

Ok, scratch that, lets wait for FED.

So here we stand ..... as consumers, looking at the complete mess of rojak that these big azz manufacturers had made for themselves and everybody else. Undecided we stand, confused we stand, wait to the death we stand.

Oh well, I think I'm just going to stick with my 15.9 inches viewable CRT for now, put my thumb up my vagina and WAIT.

The bolded statement is largely incorrect. LCDs have gone a long way, and in many aspects, LCDs are already equal/better than the CRT counterparts. A more accurate statement would be: 'No uber expensive LCD can shoot down a uber expensive CRT'

I think I finally understand what you mean, you have the upgrade blues?

If you are sill using sub 16" CRT, then maybe you should upgrade! Can get a decent 17" or 19" LCD they are honestly not bad, just research and make sure dont get lemon model. One idea i found is that some people use their older smaller LCDs in Portrait mode when they upgrade to a larger screen; no the LCD itself does not have to have Pivot support, you basically just turn the screen sideways. Because there is no built in pivot feature, you will have to find a way to prop it up maybe use books or maybe wall mount? To get the screen contents to turn portrait mode, you will need video cards that support screen rotation, both Nvidia and Ati support this.

100 Hz LCD , now what do you say, CRT?

There is another technology using laser. Sony has the first prototype of it showed at CES. It said to be more vibrant, higher contrast ratio etc.. and cost effective (oh really).
