HDMI, the latest crippleware from hollywood and HDMI group. supposed to downgrade your High definition monitor's resolution automatically if you are not using HDMI/HDCP compliance hardware. to prevent pirate copies so to speak. Guess most of you know the details, so I wont elaborate further. But my concern is. Is it really that important to us malaysian? will HDMI severely affect our HD experience? Do we HAVE to buy HDMI ready hardware (monitor, graphic card, speaker, etc) now? or can we survive without it? This post has been edited by lamely_named: Apr 7 2007, 09:47 AM |

tumpang thread. just say we watch tv series from you-know-where(BeeTee), 350mb would be the normal version right? and the 700mb and above would be the HD version right?
is there a big difference in the quality? btw, has anyone here got themselves a motherboard with rs690 chipset(w/ x1250 igp)? how would it compare to nvidia's geforce 7050 solution? thanks. |

HDMI does not affect resolution/sharpness much. YOu sure you are commenting on the right thing? It's only a new standard to prevent pirating hollywood movies. Apparently the majority of hardware manufacturer is promoting it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI This post has been edited by lamely_named: Apr 7 2007, 10:41 AM |

Its a bit embarassing for me to admit: My whole house not even 1 DVD player/reader, not one! However I probably need to upgrade soon because more and more software and games nowadays come only in DVD format. Its hard to imagine that neccesity now for HDMI.
So I think it'll be years before a lot of people will notice that they need to upgrade. People will 'naturally' adopt it when they buy new stuff as HDMI is more and more widely featured in products, with manufacturers competing to incorporate the latest and greatest, don't think we have to worry. At least for me, the late adopter type, just let it come naturally. Going by that logic, I think locally, most people will have HD capable gear before our local stations do HD; RTM definitely will continue be old sk00l for a long long time. Another darn good reason why you may not need HDMI after all:

HDCP may provide entertainment to us AV buffs. Ways of bypassing it and what not. Especially now that the AV scene is so quiet.

QUOTE(jinaun @ Apr 7 2007, 09:47 AM) Displayport has been available for a while now i think. I don't think it's going to take off (at least not anytime soon) since it's not compatible with the DVI/HDMI standard.HDCP is really quite worthless. Someone at my uni cracked HDCP was cracked before it was even mass produced. So circumventing it might not be a problem technically, but legally is another matter. Trust the lawyers to not let you mess with stuff you own. The other issue is that AACS for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray has been cracked too. So that pretty much circumvents HDCP entirely. |
