Well, my UniFi has definitely been updated to 100mbps. Even my HyppTV is now Jumbo pack but not reflected at unifi.com.my yet. It's still TQ50 and Ruby pack there. Support tickets status are also unchanged.

A quick Speedtest.

How do you achieve such high speed on 100mbps for both upload and download. I got only around 103. Any tips or advice?

I'm on 100mbps after upgrade and I could get full speed on 5ghz. But when i switch to 2.4ghz, i could only get half the speed for both download and upload. FYI, i test it via WiFi in front of the router. Never experience such problem when i had 50mbps previously. Is it my setting problem or TM problem? Thanks.

Would be more plausible to have the router on one floor of the house and an AP on the other two floors of the house.
Depends on how soon an installer can go to your house.
*
would setting up AP have any effect on the speed? AP is setup by connecting lan cable to abother router?

I put my router on the second floor. Got satisfactory signal throughout the whole house currently even with the supplied ac1200 or previously d850 (not full bar but smooth ennough for streaming). Use to have a powerline but as my house 3phase speed is very slow.
*
You place it at the top most floor? can I know what do meant by a 3phase speed? how does it affect your speed?

QUOTE(MEngineer @ Feb 2 2018, 06:52 AM)
Best is to wire Cat 6 cables to each floors. This solution is the best. Plus nowadays Cat 6 cable is cheap.
*
cat 6 is the lan cable we normally use now?

QUOTE(SilentVampire @ Feb 2 2018, 08:23 AM)
No, no effect on speed if you set up AP. Yes, AP is set up by connecting LAN cable from your main router to another router, which needs to be configured as an AP, or an AP exclusively.
*
any different btw the main router and AP? Does AP function exactly like the main router to have both 2.4 and 5ghz?

See if there is a sticker somewhere or is it written somewhere on the router box or on the router.
3 phase speed is that your some areas in your house do not share the same wiring and are on different circuits. If that is the case, you won’t get full speed or nothing at all on your powerline because the data is transported on the electrical line.
No, people are using cat5e usually, but I would recommend cat6 for future proof purposes and it is better than cat5e.
Yes, AP function exactly like the main router. Yo can configure it yourself. It will be separate from the main router.
*
Thanks. Was considering whether shall I go ahead to place the main router in the middle then pull cable to set up AP to ground and another AP at the top floor OR just straight invest in a good router instead. does all router support cat6 or only those expensive range router can support?

QUOTE(biggie @ Feb 2 2018, 01:12 PM)
Sorry it is the 2nd level of three floor house. So in the middle.

Last time in trying to get the streaming going I tried to use powerline plug, but found out that this solution do not work well with 3 phase power supply.

So I buy D-850 to replace the original supplied D-615, I found out that this router (D-850) covers the whole house sufficiently. Then when Unifi upgraded my connection recently to 100MBps they gave me TP-Link C1200 which gives better wi-fi coverage for the whole house.

For your information we have about 10 devices connected most of time, and uses streaming youtube, kodi, spotify etc. constantly. During family gathering the amount of devices may double that. (D850 no problem, however has yet to test with C1200 <- only start using this with new firmware, not usable before that)
*
O... alright. Thanks for the info. Is your installation of unifi on the 2nd level of three floor house considered as standard installation? coz from what I know so far is that, TM people will usually place the modern and router next to TV on the ground floor.

FYI, have like 15 devices usually connected to the router for daily usage... haha. so kinda need to ensure everything is done properly before moving in.

If it is three floors, one good router won’t cover the whole house, I would recommend using a few APs. It is standard installation if you are just on the 2nd floor, but will be more if you want to add cabling for the other two floors. I would recommend a high end router as your main router, and use a few good AP as well. I would recommend Ubiquiti.
*
The additional cabling for the other 2 floors is just via cat6 lan cable as you suggested, will TM do it for us or need to engage contractor or we can do it ourself? Btw, whats the use of ubiquiti and how it help? Tried googled it but dont quite get it. mine IT knowledge not so good, still learning from you guys. Thanks.

I more inclined to suggest you invest on a good router. As from my experiments modifications is also as costly and messy.

I have to pay extra for  2nd level installation, if not mistaken about 10mtrs of extra cable. And our then secondary living room (with tv and Ps3) is there. so putting modem and router there sort of complement the fadget look.
*
Agreed. Thats the main reason why i wan to get everything done properly before moving in. later, if ketuk here and there sure very messy. do you pay to the TM person to do it? still considered as standard installation? Then 10 meters of cable is referring to the black cable (from underground DP to FWS) OR fiber cable (from FWS to BTU modem)?

TM can do it for you, or you can get contracter to do it for you. As for you doing it yourself, it is possible, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t know what you are doing. I would avoid Ubiquiti then if you are not strong in IT. Just get an AP that is easy to configure. I would recommend the RT-AC1300UHP, which is a router, but can be configured as an AP. The transmission power will be sufficient for your needs, as it sounds like you have a big house.
*
alright, I will just go ahead with AP then.... its just a cozy house tbh. biggrin.gif
means that I have to buy the cat6 cable myself and ask TM to pull the cable to each AP?
shall i use RT-AC1300UHP as main router and another 2 other router for AP purpose which are slightly cheaper wan?

It will be cheaper to get your general or electrical contractor instead of a network person to pull and conceal the cables. That’s what I did for my house. My renovation guy did all that and I connected the wall jacks and crimped the cables myself. Some of them might be hesitant, just tell them it’s like pulling telephone cables.

If you have enough network points, pepper the house with low power APs, Mikrotik has one for RM130. New ones might be even less. I find many low power APs to be better than one or two high power ones.

The most important is that you get a good core router.
*
Hi, thanks for the suggestion... hahaha. seem like you are a strong mikrotik supporter. biggrin.gif do you stay in 3 stry also? how is your internet wiring like in the house?

QUOTE(lyc1982 @ Feb 2 2018, 03:21 PM)
signal is strong however the speed is ridiculously low when i used powerline, so i am using wireless adapter now on my desktop...the speed still way better than using powerline

you can always opt for cabling from modem / router to desktop on 2nd or 3rd floor...conceal it so it won't be that visible
*
Thanks. i dont mind whether conceal or not, as long it looks neat that will do. And most important is that no one will be complaining about low signal or slow. biggrin.gif

You can do that as well bro. The 2 other router can be Asus brand as well, and I would recommend the Asus RT-N12HP, which is cheaper and not too bad, and it can work as an AP as well. See here: https://www.asus.com/my/Networking/RTN12HP/

You can buy your own cat6 cable and ask TM to pull the able to each AP, no problems. Not sure of the cost though, you will have to check with them. Or you can do as bro soonwai did. It's up to you.
*
to use a router as AP, have to buy router that support AP only??? or any other router also can be converted into AP?
