Hi everyone! This is BYKS.

Due to my curiosity, noticed that taxi driver are no longer as good as before, in terms of their income. In 2017, I believe many of the taxi driver are facing the crisis for the emerging of Uber/ Grab, which they are usually provide you with better price and better experience.

Therefore, How for a Taxi driver to compete with the Grab/ Uber driver?

My cousin was a taxi driver, with his own taxi car. His amount of expenses on car itself (maintenances, petrol fess, car loans, car insurances) are much more than the amount of he is earning. He still have 2 years to go for his car loan, which takes about RM850+ per months, Amount of earning daily was just roughly about RM50- RM100 max without excluding with the expenses. Which is tremendously low compare to 2 years ago, which can earn about RM300 per day. Even using the GrabTaxi services, it was still failed to help the driver.

P/S: His car age is 3 years, driver age about 56

Shall he condemn his car, and put himself into Grab Driver?

Please please please, i need your kind advises. this problem has been struggling with the families for couple of months and nearly a year. sad.gif sad.gif

Yes. He should drive for Grab Car IMO. But remember, other than adding loan commitment, he also have to accept the higher cost of petrol expenses (non NGV). And higher toll rate. Other than that, have to maintain 4.7/5 rating. I dont assume your cousin is a bad taxi driver but dont bring taxi driver mentality into ride sharing services, he wont survive if he does. Also rm850 per month is A LOT. What car is that. In this case i do pity your cousin. I pray that he manage to get through the difficult time. This is just my personal opinion. Hope i dint offend u

Edit: i think should be Persona. I just re read that the loan tenure only 5 years.

Ya, You're right. It is Proton Persona.

May I know if the acceptance rate was lower than 4.7, what is the things affecting the driver?

Also, means that he should actually stop driving Taxi, and go for Grab right? in your opinion.

I met 1 Grab driver with a SPAD registered Alza b4. He enjoys cheaper tolls and used NGV.

It would be a tough decision for him i guess. As he is a little kind of closed-minded and not really willing to adapted to Grab, as he think Grab are not having its so called bright future for being full time.

How could I persuade him to do so? haih
