Anyone here has bought a bargain second-hand car at real cheap prices..say below RM5000?

How was the car's condition like? Did you spend a lot for repairs?

a 2nd hand car is mostly more than 20 years n got lot of problem oso..is rm3500..sure got problem although they said no problem

i can tell u, if u buy a car less than 5k,a lot of thing have to be done, unless it's a very good condition car.

Yeah agreed, it's should need a lot of repair unless you bought it from someone trustable, Eg: Relatives or friends.

tiara or kancil with 10++ years....i think u need about another few thousand to repair. But if u are luckly, u also can find the 10++ years cars that can still works well.

1985 Nissan Sunny almost 3 years ago for RM5k.
Spent RM400 on aircond, RM300 to change 4 shocks, RM1400 to overhaul engine last year.
Condition now?
Once clocked 1000km in 24 hours.
Can go up Genting.

For a RM5k car, Corrola LE '84

over few years
PAint and rust treatment - RM1500
overhaul - RM1000 plus
Suspension/absorbers all - RM800
Driveshafts etc -Rm300 plus
seats -RM500
misc stuffs like pumps etc -RM2000

more than 12k total all, changes not at the same time... it was junk from. beginning..hard to find a good car at that price..never trus a second hand car since...the f***est thing is keep breaking down on the road, the horror, the experience.

I wanna get a cheap car which can do the job. But I wouldn't want a Nissan Sunny. What about Honda Civic or CRX?

CRX is worth to buy, but must check the frame and body condition.

i bought my first Bimmer for RM3k, a 1984 528i.

over the course of 1.5 yrs, i spent Rm20K on repairs and maintenance.

But when i sold it, i sold it for Rm15K. i even sold da rims separately for RM1.5K.

actualy its depen on car n ur luck, last time my frenz bought 83" mazda 323 for 2.2K, after a week, drive shaff prob, than kaberator prob, than top over haul etc use it for 2 years than sold it for.... 1.2K

But its depend on ur luck, like nissan suny, 120y, prton magma, LE, GL still can find below 5K i also looking 4 datsun 120Y 78".. but wana chep maa.. aroung 1 K only wana mod lor

i think for protons u can still apply for rm9k loan from bank, rm3-4k for the car, rest for repairs.

you can actually buy a CRX with RM5000???? which year??? nowadays CRX cost at least RM10,000!!!

for RM3000 u can get a good condition Toyota KE70 (not in KL but in other states), or Datsun 120Y for RM1000, transplant engine and JPJ approval cost RM4000, that makes it 5000

i saw 1 KE70 in Ipoh, tip top condition, no need to repair anything, just buy and drive, tested it out and it's a bargain.....

Why wouldn't go for Nissan Sunny 130y?? It's a good and reliable car what..my family is using the car as their 3rd car and when ever i go back Sabah, im still able to bring chicks around with the car

With minor touchups (depends on car condition) around 3-4k, you will get a car that will last you for another 5-10yrs

KE70, Corolla Hatchback oso nice wat but nowadays it's really hard to find a good condition one unless you're living in KK Plenty of it are selling here...

Nissan Bluebird 910 SSS ..

hmm.. spent nothing so far except RM 100 to weld the rear diff .. the steering rack and bushes are all still as farked as when I bought it ...

1.8 engine is fuel consuming but very torquey and powerful, and it's twin carb. But hey it had a rear wiper, 4 working power windows, both working power mirror lol .. and central locking oso .. not bad for a car of those days

got the car for 1.5k but road tax is RM 2xx

i think u can get a 1993 charade...

hahah.. eveyone looking to get cheap cars nowadays... my advice, know what you're getting into... research and talk to people who've owned it... also, join in discussion with modified groups...

then you'll know what's needed.. and what's a bargain..

Which i believe is very prudent! As other forum members mentioned, one really has to take a good look at the car. It may not be good, but if it can take you from point A to B without much hassle, by all means go for it. Use the money you save to invest or save up for a better car later one when the price crash! It's coming

I bought a 1991 Daihatsu Aura costing RM 5.500 from my uncle last year. The car is in very good condition. I'm very lucky because my uncle maintained the car very well. He always change the motor oil every 5,000 KM religiously...

My advice to anyone who want to buy cheap used car is to buy from someone that you know...and trust...

Can get kancil 660M '95-96 5speed for 4-5k. Mine was sold for 4k to used car dealer with a new aircon setup, a new set of 4xbridgestones, basically not much problem except a clearcoat-failure boot paint and a dented front left door but both were sprayed with those clear spray paint in tins, therefore no rust

RM5k... Aiya, 3 months late... I sold my Iswara 1.5MPi(A) (UK-spec) 1995 for RM5,800 only. Repairs?

Just Alignment and balancing... But eating engine oil. Need top overhaul. (Pity next owner) coz what I did, I just top up engine oil every 10 days.

Bought for RM32000 back in 2000, after 8 years = RM5800... But my car's not full spec. That would be "PROTON CARES" (93)... RM5k can get...

Else, can get CITROEN ZX 2.0i for RM5k. 1996 model. SUperb confort and ride/handling. Parts aplenty as it's used as TAXIs in China.

ke70 gl dx , corolla le , datsun 130y and so on all also below 5k lol , i having ke70 but well maintained so far no problem

for a 5K budget car... get a sunny at 2K and standby 3K for repairs!! hahaha

Interested in my Saga 1.5 White Manual 1991? FC for 80% city and 20% outstation, 32 liters = 420km (got record books to prove it that goes back to 2004 and beyond). No white smoke. Engine very quite. Body needs work due to Proton "pimple problem" but generally still works great. No leaking, or makan minyak, power window 80% working. Already got 1 buyer RM 3000. Name your price, and we'll talk further.

Parts changed in just 2008:
1. Front brake pads
2. Spark plug Distributor
3. Air cond Compressor
4. Alignment and balancing
5. Regular service at 5000 without miss
6. Wiper blades
7. Double layered windscreen
8. Alarm system with auto lock when car moves.
9. Petrol fuel filter


Parts changed since 2006:
1. Steering handle changed
2. Radiator changed
3. Air cond condenser
4. Front left and right axle
5. Wheel bearings (front and rear)
6. Alternator
7. Battery (generally last 3 to 5 years)
8. Timing belt

There are many more which i also dont know how many.

Last month I helped my cousin to purchased a 1981 Honda Accord 1.6L for RM1,800.

It needs some restoration on its paintwork & good sets of wheels+tyres. Other than that, engine is running perfectly smooth & clean as well. 1st owner from year 1981 until now (2008) then sold to my cousin. My cousin has a project plan for this Accord.

I would like to hear some stories of people who tool the gamble of buying a second hand BMW or Mercedes-Benz when they are only a fresh grad starting work.

but his dad is dedicated in maintaining those cars.. spent tons of cash and time restoring em

car paint still ok (may b previous owner always parked in covered area..been runnin more than 15k mileage.. even goto genting, cameron, ipoh & penang

onli complain is the rattling dashboard when idle...

i got 120Y before, it is very easy to take care of. the only major problem is the rusty body.

yeah maybe in federal.....i've got a LE with 4A-GE blacktop auto box and the best it could do is cucuk Wira Mivec, maybe with manual box it can cucuk Wira GSR.....

The spec and price of rebuilding the LE:

Bought the car at RM2000

1) engine change including new parts and workmanship (also JPJ approval) RM6000
2) new absorbers, rust, new paint and new lamps RM3000
3) seats, sport rims and new tires RM1300
4) sound system and tinting RM600

total repairs RM10900, of course, this car can go up genting faster than genting taxi, and the air-cond as cold as wira

my next project will be a mini with a 4A-GE or 4E-FTE engine
