Got a fatal rounding error after 7 hours of prime95.

Would it be ok to keep my OC and ignores it?

or should I lower my OC to an ABSOLUTE stable level? (e.g. 24hours prime95 with no errors)

well.... u can keep the setting and try other burn in tools like SiSandra burn in, or CPU burn-in or something that does not stop when meets error.

one or two short burn-in sessions per day (with breaks in between) will eventually lead to better stability. and use that prime to test how stable they are.

Its your call really, if its not 100% stable but still maybe 99% stable then the computer is probably useable but you'll have to put up with more hangs than usual ones that windows tends to throw at you (thanks a lot, bill gates ). That might be ok for you, especially considering most of the errors only occur at full load-which is only for short durations for most users and even a fair number of gamers. The actual clockspeed of the overclock has minimal effect on processor lifespan, its more affected by voltage used and heat produced due to overclocking.

If you're doing real heavy stuff like video editing/3D studio then you might consider making sure its 100% stable-those can really load the proc to the max for an hour or more. Nothing like rendering a video for 3 hours only to have it fail at 95% and have to start all over again.

Thats not true bro, especially if you're using prime to check for memory errors. I've had prime run for over 17 hrs only to fail just before I was about to stop it. Once was due to processor, the others were due to memory.

ok, here's my XP on overclocking, i did a MemTest at DDR670, it went perfectly without any error for 20 hours, assuming will successfully on Prime Test, so i took a PrimeTest, and found, it failed after 5 hours, when i did decrease the clock to DDR650, the PrimeTest goes well even after 20 hours testing, but unfortunately, in gaming, not even in 2 hours, it's BSOD , so i'd decrease again until i've got an ideal clock, @DDR640

ok, that's what i've got on my Team eXtreme TCCD, but what happen to my current Aeneon CE-5? FYI, it fails on all stress test after several hours after i clock at DDR575, lower the clock until DDR533, still failed on PrimeTest and MemTest, but interesting thing is, no more BSOD as i got on DDR575... but, after game after game after game for long� time, i've got BSOD, then i lowered it until i've got stable (no more BSOD until now) @DDR513 , stress tested too, same result, failed after several hours but it works flawless until now, without any instability issue...

Well as for me.. I calculate how long I normally use.. If let say i one day normally use for 5 hours.. Then prime 6 hours come with one error consider ok for me.. If prime 4 hours come with one error then i might re-adjust the setting..

here's something strange, prime95 have three settings right?

1 to test the FPU only <-- wth is FPU, CPU?!!
2 to test FPU and some RAM.
3. to test FPU and lots of RAM.

I choose 1, same OC settings, 9+ hours, no errors.

what gives?!!

Does this mean my RAM is giving Prime95 errors? What can I do to fix this?

Best to stress with priority 10, very fast can detect errors
and stress using orthos's gromacs test too with priority 10, that 1 really a bomb

they say it's the FASTEST and most stressful test. If the system is unstable, it'll report error very fast

I use that tool to quick check overall system stability. If you can pass that test, most likely you'll be able to run your system without any problem (gaming, encoding, etc.) .... but no guarantee towards long hour full stress usage.

With my current settings, OCCT I can pass around 10 hours....
but gromacs core test, my settings failed miserably after an hour and 20 minutes

worst if I put priority 10, 1 minute fail already

I cant find it.

what about 1M SUPerpi, some ppl said it's fast for detecting errors too?

SuperPI is another tool
Normally test the 32MB calculation, if ur system is not stable, the SuperPI will throw out an error

Just type 'SP2004' or 'Orthos Beta' in google can already

orthos have two version, one is for dual core/hyperthread and the other for single core?

eventhough it didnt specifically state that it's for single core.

yeap, second to that, SuperPI is pretty good, if the system instable, it's just show cannot finish calculation

prime95, orthost and superPI. You dont even stress your system that much during normal usage. Not even close. By miles!!!

and they did it for like 36 hours!!!

Orthost priority 10 is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much for me.

Personally, I think if it's error free with a decent stress test (not a super crazy combo stress test), It should be stable enough for everyday use.

Unless microsoft excel = prime95, or ghost recon = orthost and photoshop = superpi. I dont think my OC-ed system would die on me.

I wouldn't call a system stable if it fails prime95 in 7 hours. It would affect alot if you do distributed computing or video encoding.

if u want to get the utmost stability out of ur system, prepare 24 hours each for the tests that you do

I agree that priority 10 is crazy but its the most effecive, read my earlier post and u will know

So 24hours of orthos + 24hours of memtest86 + 10 loops of 3dmark2001SE = 100% stability? Well, maybe 99.99%?

Well, u don't have to go 24 hours, it depends on how you perceive "stable"

If yours can pass Gromacs test for 24 hours, confirm CPU rock stable XD
