Thanks for starting this thread. I am also looking for one in that price range. Also, I hear that Decathlon near Bandar Sri Damansara has fitness tracker watches under the Garmin brand but not banded as Garmin (if that makes sense) and is a lot cheaper.

Anyway, here's a quick search on Mudah:

plus decathlon app from reviews doesnt seem to work that great.

To be honest, I have not been to the Decathlon store but I was told by a client of mine about the heart rate monitor and calorie burn counter watches. For that reason alone, I am thinking of visiting the store but I have not had the chance to do so.

Thank you for your input though; by the way, are these monitors accurate? Especially the calorie burn counter watches?

no idea...how accurate it is would be up to its software too.
i was thinkin of getting one of the decathlon ones with GPS...cos rm599 only...then reading its issues with app sync etc made me think twice.

i still think in the end kinda wasting money buying those cheap fitness tracker like mi or whatever...cos in the end they're just glorified dumb bracelets.
better spend abit more for quality from polar or garmin etc.

Thanks for the feedback.

Probably have to do more research on these watches.

I did do some reading on the calorie burn function and most of the research said that it is computed based on rate heart input that you give off during your exercise activity. But one issue is that we have to key in our stats like gender, height, weight and age even. Apparently the computer calculates an average calorie burn rate based on data that has been collected for people with stats similar to ours. So for example if at my height, weight, gender and age with the live heart rate the watch is reading off me, the average calorie burn rate is XX calories per minute then that is what it will show. It apparently won't show the actual calories burnt per min for you but rather is an average from data collected. Because, our stats might be exactly the same but there are other internal processes going on that affect calories burnt that the computer cannot...well..compute.

I think this is good enough though because chances are we all fall somewhere in the data spread they use. For a more accurate calorie burn rate, I think we'd have to go do a stress test and be hooked up to the monitors.

Just basing from what I've read, not saying that this is for sure how these watches work. Heck someone also told me to completely go natural and look at myself in the mirror to see if I am indeed burning enough calories. Makes sense and saves money too haha.

Happy to hear input from more experienced users or those with more knowledge.

ya calories burnt is based on some algorithms...in general its good enough...
of cos most cheaper ones crap out when ur heart rate gets too high... so making it kinda pointless for exercise.
but not all use heart rate, iirc fitbit is infamous for not using heart rate but rather on distance / speed...even tho the unit may have a HRM on it...maybe cos its HRM also craps out at higher bpm.
maybe newer models are better, tho i would still stick to garmin / polar etc.
too bad can't easily get tomtom here.

Maybe you can have a look at
Garmin - vivofit 3 / vivosmart
Polar - A360 , M200 , M400

I think Polar M400 cost more than 1k, but its a good thing to compare with others features .

There are a few in the market that caught my attention : Archon Touch and Amazfit Arc .

Side Note : TomTom Touch seems Ok , but a bit pricey ..

What sport will you be doing? What do u need to measure?

Typically these are few things that are commonly found..
1) Distance (using steps / stride/GPS)
2) Heart rate (to calculate calories burn and intensity analysis)
3) Altitude? For hikers / runner
4) Power (cyclist)
5) Battery life

Each brand will have give you some variation from time to time. Lot of factors involve.

Popular well known watch are more expensive than RM300. I would suggest
(1) Use phone apps (Strava for runner & cyclist) You get distance & elevation. After save & upload, it can compare your result with other user. Very addictive to improve yourself
(2) Buy 2nd hand

Am not a sportsperson, but my input on MiBand 2 for my wife. Tracking was great until she switched phones. Band wouldn't sync with the new phone no matter what. In the end we put it back in the box, she bought a Fitbit charge 2 instead. There's a reason for the premium price - the tracking, software, app, work and report better.

Check out dcrainmaker for watch review. His is 150% very comprehensive. Look at all factors that we don't even know matters.

End of the day, just check out "Summary" at the end of his review.

you can find a lot of these cheaper fitness watch in lazada within your budget price.

depends on ur prefence also

u want the watch that u can wear 24 hour or watch u wear just for exercise?
strapless or with chest strap

nowadays everybody prefer the strapless one because its more convinient.
but in terms of accurate, better use the one with strap

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for these suggestions man.

I searched on Mudah and found the Garmin and Polar models you mentioned below RM1K, some going less than RM700. The Vivofit 3 and Vivosmart actually look nice too!
