So you would love wearing a cat's mask and playing submission with other guys? Pretty kinky.

HEy... sup? You worked out yesterday? I had a major back and shoulder workout. There's some confusion i have. I saw Milos Sarcev's fit show. He said very wide grip pulldowns to behind the neck target the upper lats mostly. I usually do medium grip pull downs as one of my exercises but i tried replacing that with the aforementioned. I felt it more in my mid upper back though.

tofu? no way !!!
no one escapes takedowns.
You can execute takedowns even while your opponent is halfway attacking.
Sure, u'll get hit once or 2, but once the fight takes to the floor, u can easily submit him.
How is jiujitsu not applicable? Submitting is easier than knocking someone out.
Even big guys submit, cos if they don't, they risk losing a limb or get choked out.

you can only escape ground grapples IF you're a better grappler urself.
*
it's true that grappling an opponent on the ground, is awesome way of gettin the person to tap out. however problems;

1. GETTING the person on the floor. If I know ur good at jiujitsu, I'll NEVER let you close to me. I'll be flinging my legs at your feet ala muay thai the moment I feel ur too close. I won't open my fingers cuz I know about the finger and palm lock. MMA fighters are more knowledgable than all of us about the essence of other martial arts.

2. In a real fight, you do NOT want to be on the floor with ur opponent with a knife. You're totally askin for trouble.

BUT, jiujitsu, is excellent as a supplementary art. Personally, I would base my primary style with muay thai and boxing, and supplement it with jiujitsu and taichi. Mix hard arts with soft arts. Prob about jiujitsu is, it's so bloody technical, you've gotta keep practicing it until it becomes natural. Else you CANNOT apply it in a fight.

what happen to body hardening?
i thought martial artists should increase density of bone by hitting harder and harder objects in progress
*
IINM, muay thai and kungfu uses that, i don't think taekwondo has it applied. We weren't ever taught to kick hard things, all we kicked were kicking pads, punching bags and those body shields. However, when we saw the 8th dan master from singapore sunny tan, he did say he practiced with kicking wood.

I've only seen the scottish and australian grandmaster, i've not seen the korean grandmaster for taekwondo though. ironically, both koreans. heard the korean one gonna die already. tongue.gif

Hey, King's cool tho. I didnt know he was a wresting dude cos he wore taekwondo pants. but then again, he had a wrestling cape.. hmm.

I used to do TKD, and this one time i got my ass whooped real bad during a friendly with a rival school. My mom was so shocked when i entered the car with my sleeves all red with blood. Heh, but after all that beating i took, at least i managed to squeeze a single illegal KO punch on his jaw. Not sure if he lost a tooth or not, but he was bleeding. LOL

I think theres a disparity of standard between TKD associations. I was an ITF red belt holder, but that opponent who gave me a whoopin' was a blue belt WTF. And when i switched to WTF, they rated me a green belt only.

I think it is the wrong thread to talk about martial arts. You guys can try the martial talk forum in The Sports Channel to talk about martial arts instead of this thread which is the progress thread.

I don't mind a lil off-topic-ness, it happens with any conversation if it lasts long enough. Aslong as it stays within reason and comes back to the topic it's fine.

yeah and so are kicks below the belt, attacking me while im down and still hitting after the whistle is blown.

but the WTF instructor was so obsessed abt showing me the big difference between WTF and ITF, so he let the fella get away with all those. And guess wat, the instructor kept on extending the round, just to make sure i get hit real bad. So i figured i had to clip the guy somewhere sweet so he never gets up again.

i still think i got owned in that round, even if he played fair, i wouldve lost anyhow.

Sorry for goin offtopic. let's bring it back to progress, erm.. will be taking some shots before starting 5x5 so we'll get a before/after look when its all done.

Cake > Pie is another way of saying cake is better than pie or cake owns pie. It isn't just personal preference, it's a fact of life.
