Hi guys.

So my problem started in May. I've been using Digi broadband since January and it was perfect. Suddenly in May errors regarding ports come up such as port closed (even though I opened them), port in use (even though nothing is using the ports), or firewall not permitting some ports (even when I had all firewalls disabled). I can connect to websites just fine, but certain things such as Warframe, TeamSpeak3, and Rainbow 6 Siege (haven't tested other games or apps) are not connecting well because "NAT is strict" or one of the above port errors.

I'm using Huawei B660 Maxis unlocked router, connected to PC through cable.

So far I have tried:

1)Porting out, creating firewall exceptions.

It didn't change anything.

2) Tested a different SIM in (Digi postpaid phone SIM)

It worked perfectly fine. So I suspected it was my broadband SIM.

3)Changed a new SIM. The one where you pay RM10.

Problem continued. Digi staff also said no one else has this problem. Suspected it's only my account.

4) Terminated my broadband account and opened a new one with a new number.

Problem solved! Worked perfect for more than a month until last week. Then the same problem is back. I began suspecting it's user-related.

5)Wanted to terminate and make a new account yet again, but the report I have with that account will get discarded. So I got a Digi prepaid broadband instead so I can get a working internet while they try to fix the problem.

Surprise! It has the same exact problem as my postpaid broadband. So I think it's specifically for broadband.

6) The broadband SIM in my phone, and used tethering. Got 'unidentified network'.

7) With a different modem (Huawei E589) and still the same problem, limited to broadband SIMs.

Problem disappeared when I went into a new billing cycle. 2 weeks later, it's back. Something stinks like fish.

Any advice on what to do? Complained to MCMC/SKMM but all they did was assign this complaint to Digi tech =.=
Any thoughts? Thanks a bunch.

I called, live chatted, and went to Digi centers plenty of times already. They all speak as if there is no such thing as port blocking in Digi. I don't blame the customer service, I'm still waiting to hear from a tech rep.

Yeah I read the FUP and there isn't anything about ports. I haven't breached the policy as far as I know, and if I have I expect them to tell me that I have and that it is the reason I'm blocked.

Do you have experience with Digi and/or port blocking? Thanks for your reply.

Edit: One more thing, whenever they check my account(s) they say nothing is wrong. I also asked if I'm barred or anything and they say it's clean.

U need request them to forward this issue to technical team, u tell them all above issue u face and there is no solution. And one thing, you already sure your broadband is using public IP or private IP? AFAIK digi broadband is using private IP.

Yeah so far it's been almost weeks I'm waiting for a solution form tech (since first ever complaint), or even a phone call from them. They called once asking for all the details I already gave with my report and then nothing :/

I believe yea it's private. Starts with 192?

Maybe you not able to differentiate Public IP and Private IP. Its not checking it by the IP address, ONLY ISP know whether its private or public, we called it WAN IP address or External IP address.

Let me explain in very short form:-

Private IP, is not able to port forward to anywhere, external cannot access to these IP, so means CCTV cannot be viewed from outside.

Public IP, is open for external, which is just work like normal, but port forwarding need to be set in router.

So try call up Digi and ask them whether your account is Public or Private IP. Make sure you get PUBLIC IP so you can port forward anything you want smile.gif

Ahhh ok. So any broadband accounts can be set to either one, without having to change plans or anything? I'll live chat them right now. Thanks! Will update what happens.

"We are using the dynamic IP addresses on a mobile broadband and it is random within a shared pool of IP addresses. We have confirmed that public IP can only be applied to fixed broadband service."

I might try calling during the day. If only they call me within the last 3 weeks. I'd also prefer to talk to tech than a rep like this. Sometimes it's like talking to bots haha.

Not sure I want to use the CCTV excuse. Thanks for your replies! I'll update when I can.

CCTV is also same as the one you want like gaming etc, port forwarding.

Yeah dynamic IP is randomly given, but those IP contain Public or Private IP. And yeah its true Public IP is applied to fixed broadband like UniFi or TIME or Maxis Fibre, even so, nowadays wireless broadband also got Public IP, which depend on ISP to allow or not allow.

EDIT:-

I just founded out digi forum also got someone face the same issue as yours here: https://community.digi.com.my/t5/Solution/P...dress/m-p/22593

I think digi might changed their TnC, which not allow Public IP for all sim subscriber already..

So I think Digi Broadband for Business is the only choice which they will give Public IP for business purpose.

Wut?? Ah FFS. But I've never met anyone else with the same problem. I've known instead multiple people who use mobile for gaming.

So this dynamic IP can't be static by setting from router?

Do you know if this is only applicable on broadbands? As in, do postpaid mobile plans also go on private IPs?

Dynamic IP cannot set in router, even can, its still Private IP because ISP set your account to Private IP mode.

I cannot make sure any postpaid will give Private or Public IP, ISP is the only one know it, you need to ask them, but I believe if goes for Business plan, they give Public IP, because a lot business MUST USE public ip to access server/cctv/alarm etc.

Mobile broadband all private IPs. Can't host cctv or servers. Only fixed line broadband can have public or private IPs.

Maxis by default gave private IPs unless u request for cctv hosting. Once done, the username will change from Home to Public.

Right. Makes sense. It's just that I also know few people who use mobile postpaid as internet instead. I might look into that.

And you say this limitation to private is recent? Probably in line with the upgrades they've been doing. I'm so frustrated and sad bangwall.gif

Thanks so much for replying! At least I have a new direction to troubleshoot now. You're an angel!

Yeah, try subscribing to vpn that supports port forwarding
For me, i connected my huawei ws880 running xwrt to usb modem. Connect to openvpn server, setup iptables rules and I was able to view my cctv/any other service

Just get a VPN to solve this.
