Hi guys / otais,

I am planning to get Kia Forte for weekend and long distance travel / balik kampung (kuantan, terengganu).
The 1.6 version, is it really underpowered?
I read from a few site people are saying the 1.6 is underpowered for the body.
And lastly, any common issue about the car?
*
get the 6 speed with paddle shift. Learn to use the paddle shift and u wont feel underpowered at all. its kinda like using manual shift. its more than enuff to overtake anything in any roads (inclining) and enuff to propel to up to 180kmh-200kmh.. of course, this is not a performance car..
i'm guessing those who said 1.6 is underpowered, they probably owned a supercar to compare it with.. biggrin.gif

With the 4-speed, you can do the manual shift thing... just less convenient...

I was coming off a Honda City 1.5L CVT, but didn't mind the Forte one bit since I drove solo most of the time... and the Forte was much better built.
*
yup, the 6-spd also got..bit confusing tho because u need to use the stick and end up upshift when u actually wanted to downshift vice-versa.. sweat.gif

Dun understand, my 4 speed is upshift for naik gear
Downshift for turun gear
*
Opcosla upshift = naik gear, downshift turun gear.. biggrin.gif
what i meant was, i just confius when have to push the gear lever downwards to turun gear (in my mind, i always thinking of pushing the gear lever downwards to make the gear naik), and vice versa.. maybe bcos im not used to that, so sometimes end up upshift when i actually want to downshift when using the gear lever sweat.gif

Thats what i did.. but when u want to turn ur wheels and up/downshift at the same time, have to use the gear lever jugak since the paddle shift is out of reach.. sweat.gif

Update to my brake light switch and gear shifter drama (1/2);

Car cut power again when driving on highway. My brake light switch was on again because my temporary stopper also hancur. Car thinks I've been stepping on the brakes. Traction control keeps kicking in.

[attachmentid=9207261]

[attachmentid=9207262]

Sent to Kia SC, diagnostics pulled up error code on brake light switch and also the wheel speed sensor. Reset codes and everything looks ok with a new temporary stopper. RM50 for this.

[attachmentid=9207265]

They also had a look at the gear shifter linkage and adjusted it for me. This done for free.
*
Hi..nice sharing.. tq
May i know which SC u sent your car to? I'm having quite similar problem as yours.. the tcs and abs warning and sometimes the brake/parking indicator keep lighting up. Sending to Kota kemuning SC, they said its bcos of my abs sensor faulty and asking for ~RM600 a side to replace.. I'm deciding on something simple and cheaper option 1st before delving to a much more expensive thing.

btw, this is my 5th year of ownership on the forte.. somehow i think i might be getting a lemon.. sweat.gif so far, the alignment (infamous steering pull left issue) still not yet rectified even tho sent to numerous wshop for alignment.. havent done the camber adjustment yet bcos still looking for a replacement rims (2 of my rims bengkok ady)..

I understand from one Hyundai mechanic that the stock rims for the Forte is actually very soft, therefore prone to dents. Best if you can find a set of 2nd hand rims or splurge on some new ones.
*
Am looking for stock replacement ones but i see mostly ady painted with black lining..so no longer have that stock feeling.. the price oso not that much different with new ones..contemplating either getting the used ones or new now.. but if new ones of course wont have stock design la.. sweat.gif

Kia SC Pantai Bharu Klang. Surprisingly, not very busy and with very honest crew. Would recommend to try here first.

I've been lucky with the steering and rims. But they are softer than most.

Hi thanks for the info.. good thing i know that place very well cos i bought a car once from there..haha..but nvr really thought of sending my car there for service since its quite far from my place and roads are frequently jammed there..haha.. anyway, will give it a try there since uve sent urs and had a good feedback there.. thumbup.gif

is there any reasons to use Petronas EO? Its expensive in my thoughts. You can search through lazada for engine oils or tesco/giant for discount sometimes. Use any fully syn from big brands will do.
*
Any suggestions on other EO for forte? I nvr tried other brands yet.. Just thought that kia exclusively dealt with petronas for specially developed EO (5w30) for forte, guessing that shud give the best performance which suits the car.. smile.gif

hmmm, actually its not specially develop for forte lol. anyhow, for petronas syntium 3000 with that price, actually its nothing to shout out. For me, you can switch to cheaper alternatives. Not harm your pocket ma. 100++ you can get fully syn from mobil1, shell and alot more. changing the EO within the period without over extending is the key point. I've ever use syntium 3000 too. but nothing special for me. so hop to another cheaper alternative.  biggrin.gif
*
biggrin.gif oo i see.. cos i saw the naza/kia logo on the EO bottle before.. guessing that could be "specially developed" for naza/kia cars.. haha.. anyway, maybe will try other brands of EO after this since its quite difficult to find the syn 3000 5w30 on local market apart from the sc itself.. i did saw mobil1 on sale at tesco but nvr wanted to try that EO tho.. hows the performance comparing to syntium 3000?

Anyone install the H7 LED light bulb ??? Is that very bright and legal ?

I worry LED is too hot end up the plastic transparent cover become black like being burnt and illegal..

Anyone can comment ?
*
i did. so far no issue..already more than a month. the cooling fins and fan made it unfit to use with the original dust caps. so have to replace with the rubber ones that got hole in the middle so that the fins and fan can protrude from the cap, but still can have ventilation, and somewhat waterproof. but have to adjust the level abit. its quite bright but so far never got any high beams from the opposite traffic..

btw, led light itself is not hot..so, shud be no problem with it melting or blackened the casing.. its the led circuit u need to worry about. if u got good ventilation, shud be no problem. the led wud last long

Could you please share more details about your experience on the use of LED headlamps, in particular:

1) What is the colour temperature of the LEDs used by you? 6000k white

2) What is the driving experience like for you under the following conditions:
  2.1 Good weather city drive at night (road with yellow streetlamps).
  2.2 Good weather city drive at night (road with white LED streetlamps).
  2.3 Good weather city drive at night (road without streetlamps/dark roads).
  2.4 Good weather highway drive at night (dark roads without streetlights).
  2.5 Rainy weather city drive at night (without streetlights).
  2.6 Rainy weather highway drive at night (without streetlights).

2.1 - 2.4 : all good. great visibility
2.5, 2.6  : all good. good visibility in normal rain..not the really2 heavy ones. i havent tried driving in that condition yet. but then again, during rainy day, i also turn on my fog lamps which is still yellow in color (stock). that shud help with the visibility too.

3) How much was the purchase cost? Did you install it yourself (DIY)? -i think around RM60-70 and yes, diy plug n play. Just need to adjust the level for better result and to avoid opposite traffic become blinded.

4) Any recommendation on brand/make/model? I've done quite a bit of search via Lazada and couldn't decide which seller provides the best quality (in terms of robustness/tahan lasak-lama) sad.gif -i bought from a seller in lelong.com. "Aurther" iinm. its cheap, so i guess its a try and error. biggrin.gif

5) How long have you been using your LEDs? -about a month now. so far no issue. even if i managed to use it for a year without issue shud be no problem for me as i paid quite cheap for it. haha

6000K ? That's very much higher than the JPJ permitted range of ~4300K for factory fitted non-projector headlamps.
No issues during roadblocks? *touchwood*

Also, how many LEDs are there in each of the unit your purchased?
I see some advertised units have 2 big LEDs, while some have up to 6 LEDs per unit (one-side).
Some even has on-the-fly switchable colour temperature (3000K, 4300K, 6000K).

Btw, did you also purchase the headlamp rubber dust caps via online as well?
*
Haha..exactly..just a single led unit. its quite difficult to find 4300k led at that price. so far, nvr ran into any roadblock.. but if there's any, still can turn it off and use foglamp instead.. laugh.gif

the dust cap can be bought online thru ebay..but i think normal sparepart shop oso got.. i got mine from my other cars' headlamp that i didnt use.

I sent the car for service at outside shop..didnt send to SC for quiet sometime d..how much is the cost roughly?
*
Mine oso like yours.. 2012 1.6sx.. happened since the mileage around 80k..all ABS light, TCS light and parking brake light on all the time. I ask at SC JD automotive near giant kemuning they said need to change the abs sensor..total is around RM1.6k iirc.. but, i didnt change.. now mileage ady 140k.. laugh.gif
I got a feeling this is a massive flaw in our forte.. but naza just stays quiet.. my next car wont be from them.. pity..bcos i kinda like kia

I believe this is an isolated case..not a major flaw. I myself do not face this issue since owning the car from 2010.

Somehow this issue also happen to other car brands. Last time my wife's Preve also need to change the ABS sensor..my brother's 3 year old Peugeot 408 also kena. So i believe any cars with ABS are subjected to this issue...

By the way..my next car is also a Kia..just waiting for its arrival..hehe
*
donno la bro.. dont think its isolated bcos i gugel around and got quite a number of these cases reported.. even my moms 10yrs old viva pun still got its abs working and that car is like half the price of our forte, and older too.. sweat.gif

i dont have any grudge on kia. i know its really a good brand and make quality cars, unfortunately, in malaysia, the SC really like lepas tangan on issues like this.. I wud buy another kia if i were to live somewhere else and not malaysia laugh.gif
