Don't suggest you go for DSS2. Doesn't use Dolby Headphones instead TB uses their own proprietary HRTF by accepting a Dolby Digital signal. Sounds really weird IMO.

As for headset... why not just connect directly into the PS3 then with a USB to 3.5mm input adapter? Don't have to go through the phone then through bluetooth then to the PS3.
Unless you're saying you want to Skype through your phone and want the voice to play on your main speakers/headset/headphone.

eh? that works? the PS3 can channel the game sound through USB? (outside of using PS3 proprietary headsets)
i thought USB is strictly for voice chat?

Wait wait wait, I think is misuderstood your question earlier. You want the headset to play both game and voice audio, but through bluetooth on the phone instead, is that it?

headphones with bluetooth and a 3.5mm jack

headphones bluetooth connect to PS3 for chat purpose.

3.5mm connect to tv/receiver to receive in game audio.

So headset to PS3 for chat (through bluetooth), PS3 > TV/receiver > headset for game audio?

That should work, it's similar to how Turtle Beach does audio with their PX21.

yeah, i was thinking that, but just afraid if the game sound will actually pause whilst voice chat is on going.

so in a real life scenario:

gun fire->voice chat->gun fire->voice chat

instead of:

gunfire & voice chat & gun fire & voice chat

I've only ever tested this on my phone and ps vita, if im not mistaken.
the game sound pauses when the voice chat is in use

Hmmm.. the difference here is that the PX21 had an in-line amplifier that also acts as a data passthrough for voice chat.
Need to test this method of yours out, although... I don't ever see myself using a bluetooth headset.

So on a slightly different topic, I've been dabbling with soundbars lately to see if they've finally reached a level where it is actually decent.

To my surprise, yes... but still sort of skewed from the pricing standpoint.

My top picks so far this year:

- LG NB4530a
- Samsung HW-751
- Philips Fidelio HTL9100
- Sony HT-CT260

Honestly, price-performance king among the 4 here is the LG NB4530. Harvey Norman currently sells it for RM1.2k (while some private electrical stores probably sells it for less than RM1k).

I'm still testing out the NB4530 though, so no concrete conclusions yet but wow... for the price (at least in Malaysia), I've been really impressed thus far. Despite it looking so slim, the NB4530 doesn't sound tiny and boxy at all up until the 80% near its maximum volume.
I was totally expecting the NB4530 to be another soundbar that only sells itself on the looks, focuses too much on the high frequencies and packing gimmicky features.

The sub isn't too bad either, although it only goes down to 50hz at its lowest range (expected of this price range), it's been mostly good enough as this is where plenty of lows hit now a days. There's very little clouding over into the mid-range which is always a plus.

Still playing around with the NB4530 though, including the fact that I need to mount it higher up the way (above TV) to increase its soundstage.

But yeah my point is, I think soundbars has came to a point where it can actually be a decent substitute for 2.1 tower setups. Now I just hope that these manufacturers don't start to cheap out on next year's models.

LG sent me a test unit. smile.gif

One issue, bluetooth seems to be a bit finnicky though. Songs keep cutting out from my phone even if I'm only just barely 7 feet away.
Seems to be wi-fi interference though I'm not exactly sure yet if it's a problem with the soundbar it self or what.

Yeah I love the minimalist design! That brushed aluminium is soooo sexy.

The Samsung HW-751 and Philips HTL9100 I didn't get to test it out extensively yet. I heard them briefly only and the conditions weren't that optimal, so I hope some day soon I get to put them in a proper test scenario.

But in all seriousness, the more I listen to the NB4530, the more it impresses. Will probably watch Pain & Gain tonight to see how it fares.
Now I just need to figure out why its bluetooth isn't working the way it should be.

No problem. smile.gif

The DSS is your DAC + DSP for a headphone.
Virtual surround sound (HRTF) works for any type of stereo headphone (or headset) as long as it receives a proper surround mix — which in this case is Dolby Digital 5.1 since the DSS uses Dolby Headphones as its virtual surround algorithm.

Most PS3 games are at least mixed in 5.1 with Dolby Digital support. There are games (particularly plenty of PSN titles) are only in stereo, which the DSS would then upmix the stereo audio to a faux 7.1 a.k.a Dolby Pro Logic II.
I personally don't like upmixing a 2 channel source to surround signals, as it opens up the soundstage of a headphone till the point where positional accuracies are loss. Not all games are like that and it certainly depends on the type of headphones that is in use.

As for the USB to 3.5mm input adapter, like I said... you can use a bluetooth mic or a headset. One less cable to worry about IMO.
Also, most bluetooth mics has a volume control for voice, where you won't have to deal with your ears bursting blood when whiny 13 year old kids or idiots who shout in your ears for no reason.

The problem with the Z506 (and most 5.1 computer speakers) is that they only accept analog inputs. The PS3 cannot output 5.1 audio through its A/V port.
Sure the fix is to get a receiver, go from the PS3 > HDMI/Optical > receiver > Z506.

But by doing so, that'd be a waste of money. Not to mention the impedance mismatch from a receiver to a set of cheap computer speakers.

If you are using TV, you can use the RCA output. Of course, this is not the best approach for audiophiles but it still delivers. Hehehe.

RCA = stereo
Z506 = surround.

Is there a TV that has 5.1 analog output that I do not know about? Please share.

Haha not that I know of. But again, soundbar is 2.1.
