I don't see a dedicated thread for Display sets, so here it is, because i want to ask.

Anyone know where can find something similar like this? I think it's stackable:

the pictures are from a vendor but in Singapore, so i don't think it's viable or cheap to order from there.

Feel free to discuss anything about displays. Cabinets/Boxes/Tables/Stands/Rotating Stands etc.

Daiso now are selling those U Shape lift stands that you only see in Department stores display (not for sale). But i have yet seen any place selling the XL size.

i think Ikea no longer sell Detolfs?

Anyway if you stack so many it might not be cost efficient already. also takes alot of time to dust proof them. and not so ideal if you want a simple clean line em up look.

Those Billy shelves have 2 side opening meaning the glass borders eat up too much space.

i just find the ones i shared tidy & easy to maintain.

Detolf cleaning them 1 by 1 is a challenge. dust & oil still goes in even you dust proof. with long design you just need to swipe from left to right. and there are gaps between each detolf. you can saw up the edges but it'd be alot of work.

i've seen people combining 2 detolfs into 1 big cabinet, requires some modding.

where you located at.

for normal case u can find in most shops, for bigger type you need to find those that sell high value items usually located near cashier.

i won't talk about normal cases (those you see in comic shops).

for 1/24, i think they are too small.

there is a long type flat base around rm21.90, it fits 1 1/18 cars nicely with abit extra so it might fit 2 1/24 cars.\

there is also a shorter case around rm18 that will fit 1 1/24 car.

for motorcycles 1/12 i think the height will be a problem, the wide requirement too since they have handles. cheap solution is a jusco book cabinet with transparent table cover and some white tacs.

other Japanese 100yen shops also sell similar rm5 cases. some are flat base some have 1 stair.

or you can go Home Pro they sell many acrylic shoe boxes & cases of all shapes & sizes made in thailand. the shoe box is cheaper rm19.90 fits a short 12" figure or a vehicle. they have bigger ones for display but it's over a hundred.

and my advice is always put a piece of paper on the base because plastic reacts with each other, rubber will fuse with plastic as i've experienced. The rubber will cause a hole on the base where it sits on and they stick with each other. for cars best put something below the car so the tyres don't experience pressure.

just make sure check for scratches & cracks usually along the edge.

also Art Friend sells acrylic pieces & cases, price aren't cheap, and cases glued together don't look as good as molded ones.

hi there, it's probably not cost effective to ship from west to east.

your best bet is DIY, i have seen them starting to sell the same acrylic boxes as Homepros, from thailand, choice not so many but i see them carry the shoe box size which will fit your cars. probably fit 2-3 if you line them up at an angle. they have 8 holes on the sides which can be taped up. there are 3 sizes for the shoe boxes.

cost around rm20 each.

IMO rm2k is abit expensive for that size and nothing special, it uses 2 sliding doors which means the middle of the cabinet will have a line, and there will be gaps between the sliding door, which you can put a dust shield on them and the rails on the sliding door will collect lots of dust.

also for some reason i find those LED stripes too dim and pale. i think few bigger bulbs should look better maybe daylight or warm white.

i like the detolfs, they look tidy. any reason you hate them so much?

I still prefer detolf. Got 4 of them. Reason because its cheap, the shelf is customizable (level, add shelf) to caters my liking. I can also moved them around when I'm bored with my living room arrangement. Lastly I display my toys in 'sets', so each detolf/shelf got its own theme.

dude how do you move them around without disassembling them?

i did not install those wheels as i worry they might break 1 day. also they sit better on the wood. i don't think you can just lift the cabinet up, it's not light and you put stress on the glasses.

Took out all the stuff inside and lift it a bit, then slide in a foot mat (upside down, find a mat with surface that can glide on tiles, bought mine at rm2 shop). Then just carefully push them around.

o i see. i was thinking you moved to another floor or moved elsewhere.

so only way is to disassemble i guess.

this is where those Jusco cabinets win.

why i hate detolf...ehm ..ehm
1) it shakes. everytime i bump the shelfs ever so slightly, the cabinet shakes and things will fall apart/over.

2) dust. dust. dust. yes i know can buy strips but man....thats a lot of work

3) space restriction - frankly , the limited size dont allow you to display your collection in a panoramic mode.....trust me....things just looks better.

Hmm... Yeah. Its alot depend on what you kept inside. I put gunpla 1/144 and 1/100, and diecast car up to 1/24 only, so its fine. My 1/100 macross can fit in jet mode. So does my TF especially those combiner.

About the stability, i agree. That's why the detolf with gunpla i put 'inside' block by 2 couches, while the one with diecast, i put at open space. The only problem i previously faces is that the lowest part is not visible (because blocked by couch). But i bought a couple of 'legs' (from ikea as-is, supposed to be leg for furniture) and it fit perfectly. So now my detolf are raised about 15 cm.

where did you get the extra glasses for more shelves?

i don't know about the legs, but IMO detolf is best sitting as low as possible, adding legs will increase it's CG and reduce it's stability even more.

anyway if you are worried can always secure it to the wall like how Ikea does it.

anyway i find that metal framed cabinet quite nice, only thing is i think there are many small gaps all around, not just the front like Detolf. also cost more.

also lots of dust you have there.

you have to seal off all 4 sides including top & bottom. also the hole where the lightbulb sits i aded some blutac around the cover to prevent dust going in. the top & bottom i just stick the strips on the front of the door.

the LED looks ugly from the top though. i still think 2 small lights shooting from the corner would be more aesthetic.

also those LED looks too bright if you look directly at it.

did they cut the size for you or just happen you found them? location coz rm4 is really cheap.

i see you already have those dust stripes why not just install them takes only 20 minutes to adjust them.

it's a real hassle to clean a detolf.

Just bring one and ask them to cut the same.

I put some dust strip, but don't see much improvement.. The best way us vacuum the surrounding are (my living room) often.

Cleaning them is a hassle. But i can play2 with the collections, clean them up, take picture and change the pose while cleaning.. Haha

you mean inside the cabinet or just room lights?

i just wen to a demo house with LEDs. they are down pointing 3 LED in 1 round light. while the whole room looks good, the moment you raise your head up on the ceiling the LED just hurts your eyes and leaves a mark in your eyes for a while.

this is my main concern when thinking of changing to LED.

normal lights might be bright but they aren't so sharp on the eyes.

i'd imagine if you put it in the bed room it'd be a concern.

using pointing upwards would mean more vertical space & dust on the false ceiling for the lights.

well i don't know about you but for me, i just need to use a blower to dust off the dust once every 6 months. only issue is the grease building up on the glass which dust proof can't really prevent.

i think you are doing it wrong, or maybe there are gaps you did not notice.

well i bought those expensive stripes in ACE, 1 cabinet needs 2 strips. the one on the closing side is easy just stick them parallel to the door, the one on the opening requires alot of adjustment so that the door closes properly and not leaving much gaps, only small gaps i have is at the 4 corners. also you have to add the strips on the top & bottom of the door.

and of course i made proper seals on the top LED hole which i didn't use.

for cabinets without doors i just use book wraps as covers and use blu tack to secure them. I've used velcros before but bookwrap/table plastics tend to shrink over time. the transparency not as good as glasses but well that is the poor mans way. jusco cabinets only cost rm30-50.

for sliding door you will need those fur like dust proof strips around the center.

best is get an HEPA air filter, benefits not just your things but your health.

I lived at outstation area.. Thus things are cheaper.

They do smoothen the edge using grinder.

Clamp i used 'metal cable tie' from hardware shop. 80cent each.
