wat's the difference when the car is not moving. With or without ABS, it is not going to do anything.

How about airbag indicator? Should wait till it dims too?
When you put your keys in the Accessories mode (before turning on your engine), there're series of self-test to be conducted by the car system. This corresponds to the series of indicators on the meter panel. Some of the most crucial self-test will be air-bag and ABS checking. |

but if start the engine when it checking the ABS and airbag... perhaps will harmful bit for the computer... try to switch on the radio and start the engine, sure the radio or other accessories (and myvi meter light will off too) will off during the starter running... tat means the car allow most of the power just for the starter only... perhaps will caused unregulated power may harm the computer which is running and checking ABS and airbag... for me, i will start the engine after computer done the checking and working fine...

got start engine indicator or not ?
if dont have, then just start only..... the lights (for ABS and Airbags) will light up when a fault is detected.. there is no need for it to go off first before starting the car |

QUOTE(kcng @ Apr 3 2007, 01:19 AM) got start engine indicator or not ? i believe most of the new cars here have engine check alongside with the ABS and airbags too. It's just another 5-10 seconds, so I dont think it's that bad to wait for it to complete the test before cranking the engine...if dont have, then just start only..... the lights (for ABS and Airbags) will light up when a fault is detected.. there is no need for it to go off first before starting the car |

So, still no conclusion yet?
Crank the enginer before or after the startup self-tests are done (illustrated for indicators on the meter panel)? |

to be on the safe side just wait for the computer to check everything, worried sudden power drop (during engine startup) might result with bad computer data checking.

If you don't wait for the lights to go off, you might not notice a light or two staying lit while you drive off. Then you won't know your car diagnosed a potential problem... until it's too late.

Maybe the ABS and airbag subsystems are powered by battery; so it doesn't really matter if you want to wait till these two subsystems finish itself self-test.

different car model has different sequence & checking innitialisation...
it would be good to wait for those checking lamps to turn off beforestarting up the engine... but it can be quite annoying for some occasion. |
