Are there scams on Mercari, Rakuma, Yahoo Auctions in Japan?


Yes, unfortunately, scams do exist in Japan.
It is not as common as on other countries' websites, but it does exist. These are the common techniques that the scammer uses recently.
Sellers hide ”inconvenience” details in the description.

Scammer sellers are using consumer’s “assumption” about something, and the laziness of not reading description for scam. Some of the common cases are

▶Seller posts a picture of multiple items, but stating in the description that the price is for only one of them.
▶Seller posts a picture of an expensive watch, but stating in the description that the price is for the “Picture” (not for the watch)
▶Selling the item with a lower price, but with an expensive domestic shipping cost (example, 20,000yen for a small parcel)

Seller selling fake items

Let’s be rational, popular branded items have market prices. No one will sell them 20% lower than the market price. Think twice if you want to buy something about 20% cheaper than the market. These are the fake items circulated in the flea market (Yahoo Auction, Mercari, Fril etc) in Japan recently.
▶Airpods
▶Expensive watches like Rolex, Hublot etc.
▶Car parts like air filter, steering wheel, car brake pad, radiator, gull wing kit etc.
▶Branded bags like Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Gucchi, Chanel etc.
▶Fashion brands like Moncler, Ralph Lauren, Bape, Supreme, Champion,GIVENCHY etc.

Most of the sellers will try to sell things on major platforms.
