Since there isn't a thread mentioning the pros and cons of these both cars, i would like to create a thread to compare between these two models. So my question is, which model is recommended especially for not so rich ppl/just makan gaji worker ?

1. 1st model harrier 97-2002 (price from 15k-35k)
2. 2nd model 2003-2008 (price from 41k-90k++)

Pls specify the model, engine variant, fc, running cost, reliability (how long before hv to send for major service/overhaul, especially the gearbox/transmission is very sensitive). the focus is more on 10++ years old car biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

cheapest 2nd model harrier is almost 50,000. 1st model starts from 30k for 2.4 model.. if 3.0 model cheaper.

my dad own the 1st model 2.4 and 2nd model 2.4.. both are great cars, no problems. the newer harrier are prone to dashboard crack, my dad sold the car before the problem become serious, but still keeping the 2001 harrier because it is still solid from day 1. The engine now clocking 300+k km and we never overhauled anything before, except for servicing aircond compressor

FC, don't expect much, but it is more or less like toyota camry 2.4.

btw, 1.8k salary a month is a bit too ambitious to take harrier right? 1 round of roadtax , insurance + 1 set of tire is enough to GG your entire month salary.

Actually no.. considering bought full in cash. Of course need to fork out some amount of money at first.. especially if want to install NGV for more save on fuel , but wanna focus more on the reliability and price of sparepart..im just saying in a case..not actually my salary is 1.8k..

I heard the 2nd gen is much prone to transmission failure compare to 1st gen.. thats why want to gather more information on this "myth".

Currently running 2nd gen. 350g. Owned for more than a year and counting. Aside for typical services, no other issues. Only changed AC fan motor once. Rest all good.

Year manufacture 2008. L spec with alcantara. FWD with typical coil absorber. Don't go for AiRS version if u are not loaded. A halfcut piece for a single side can easily cost 3k for air suspension.

Hi, I am exploring option to buy a 2010 Toyota Harrier 2.4 240G, which the price ranges from 60k - 100k in carlist. My mechanic friend told me Harrier is my best option for a used SUV which I could afford. Is there anything I should be aware of before making the decision? Like known issues, maintenance, service, things to avoid etc...

Thanks for your advice

As usual if u are buying used recon, get your trusted mechanic to have a thorough look. Harrier can be a reliable brute yet comfortable if taken care properly.

Regular tear and wear such as fan motor dying, starter carbon wearing out, brake pads wearing out are common stuff. Engine and gb are pretty reliable otherwise.

Also do test the rear power door and afs if the unit u are getting comes with those features.

this is subjective matter. so let me just give my opinion here.
for more powerful - depends on engine. both lexus rx330 and harrier is tuned up the same way (of course by following the same harrier variant - lexus rx330 vs harrier 3.3), so i guess both of them are same in terms of power

soundproofing - this one i cant really say. but i think both harrier and lexus are same (honestly speaking), what makes them differ is the memory seat, and probably premium sound system in lexus

not sure about the localized radio, should be UK English I think.
many ppl say lexus is much better soundproofed than toyota, but i personally think they are just fascinated with the additional luxurious features.
hope this help

Planning to buy a 2000/03 toyota harrier 2.4, but mileage reaching 270k, is it consifer high mileage?
This model with many issues ? Esp the age reaching 18 years now.

What is the reasonable price for the car?

If compared to crv year 2005, or 2003 nissan xtrail, which is better?

I saw a lot review each from owner and technical report.

XU10 , XU30 - 3.0 V6 Due t same engine

1. Owner 98/00 3.0 V6
City = 7km/L
Highway = 11km/L

1 full tank = RM 100 ( @ RM 1.80 / L )
1 month petrol = RM 6-700 ( but I am a Sales guy, petrol is on company smile_tongue.gif )

But the comfort, safety and luxury of Harrier is a few class above a brand new City / Vios ( same price as a 8-9 years old Harrier ) could offer.

2.
i used to own 3.0 V6 harrier. fuel consumption averaged out to be 9.5
km/l. highway, slightly better at 10.1+ km/l, urban drive about 8+km/l.

it's a tall vehicle, can't stand its bodyroll when taking corners.
furthermore the wheelspin is too much when accelerator is floored.
(considering mine was FWD). pros: comfortable ride..high angle view..

My dad still driving 1st gen harrier Y2000 bought in Y2003 and clocking over 300K km.
Still comfort and good NHV on highway driving.
He spent around 2K++ to fix the gearbox few years back.

Using a 2005 ACU30 for past 3 years. Bought cash RM65k. Sunroof, power boot, power seat, reverse camera. The previous owner even change all the wood trim. Like brand new.
Normal maintenance and replacement of wear and tear. Happy yet can be boring sometimes.. hahaha. Cannot sprinting. Outlook still look good. Can last me for many years to come.

Plenty of replacement parts available. OEM or genuine, not hard to find.
