I suggest finding a good instructor in whatever city you're based in, and tell him/her you'd like to do your OW in Redang. Rather than taking chances with an instructor you may not meet until the day of your OW.

Thing is that, I needed to take leave for that. I would prefer spending my leave on an island plus doing the course. Thanks for the input though.

Doing on the island will require you to take leave, plus you'll be mostly stressed during the 4d3n on the island. Doing it in the city means you can spend doing it over weekends until you're confident, and go island repeat same thing in the sea instead of swimming pool, and you get to mostly relax on the island. I always recommend to split your sessions

do u have any previous diving experience such as participating discovery scuba diving?
if yes and do not have any major issue such as equalizing then shouldn't have any issue completing the course at one shot in 4d3n.

if no then just like others have said, u can try to speak with the dc or instructor to schedule your confined water training at pool during your free day before heading to the island.

speaking from experience, the worse thing that could happen for a student is equalizing and have barotrauma during the course. This is unnecessary stress and might even have to re-do your dives depending on your instructor's evaluation.

btw, enjoy your diving experience! smile.gif

Just to share some info after spending a week in Langkawi, diving in Segantang is pretty decent. Spotted 3 whaleshark, school of barracuda, groupers, tons of fishes and beautiful corals. Vis was ok 8-10m due to nature of dive site and do expect current. Overall pretty good compared to most sites in tioman & perhentian.

p.s. no pictures as i dont carry cameras

ahhh you were one of those lucky buggers!

I didn't see the whaleshark(s) but it was a lot fishier than I expected smile.gif And the white coral was super pretty

Hi, recommend please if you find that is good.

Dived a few times and did my AOW with Turtle Bay. It's on Long Beach.
Highly recommended smile.gif
And yeahh.. if you are confident in water, 4d3n finishing everything on the island shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for the feedback. I have no problem equalising in deep pool or freediving during snorkeling. Should not be a problem unless I catch a flu.

My local dive centres. The instructors are bringing divers out for diving in the weekend.

I had the option of splitting it or doing it one shot on the island. I did it one shot at the island.
For my case it came down to cost (it was much more expensive to split, almost 50% more) and other diver friends feedback to do it one shot in actual open water.

At least for me swimming in pool or the sea it not an issue, so there was no fear of being submerged or fighting current and waves.
so to me no point spending more $$$ of doing it in a swimming pool first.

My GF who did the course with me is an ok swimmer, but has no experience in the sea was also able to handle it well. Of course she had some difficulty in the beginning with the heavy gear and fighting the current and waves at the shore.

Anyway, just my personal experience. It's different for everyone.
