I agree with the RCTA. But for BSM I would much prefer the lane watch. Yes, ppl argue that only the passenger side but if for driver side, you need to look at the center console to check is kind of distracting  ( vs looking at right side mirror). Furthermore right side mirror have larger area of viewing compared to viewing the left side. Furthermore for lane watch, you can activate it when navigating those tight and narrow lane.

But if it comes with both lane watch and BSM then it's a win
*
IMO, while driving I prefer looking at the side mirrors for confirmation before making lane changes, its more natural than staring at the center console, which is distracting as you pointed out, so those BSM icons in the mirrors will do actually. One's eyes are naturally drawn and kept at the side mirrors to check blind spots and see objects close to the sides. I mean, I'll have to constantly remind myself to check the right side mirror for objects on the right side of the vehicle... And switching to the center console and the left side mirror (double check) for objects on the left? seems a bit of a hassle.. No? rclxub.gif .. Anyway, guess with added practice, one gets used to it.

So yeah, I do agree with your last statement.. Having both features on both sides is the win! Yeah, humans right... Never satisfied laugh.gif

I check my tires at least once, nearly every single day before it's driven.. Except its a cursory check for sufficient pressure or leakages.. Not to inspect the nuts. shocking.gif sweat.gif Gotta be more careful.

New Mazda CX-5 !
edit: go paultan dot org to read; don't know why LYN don't allow links now?

I find it interesting that their lowest end car, 2.0L is RM155K. And the design was basically same as previous model with some slight changes. How are they going to compete with CR-V or is Mazda the leading brand now in Malaysia vs Honda?
*
Lyn and dear Paul had a falling out couple years back. See here...

QUOTE(Darkknight2010 @ Aug 22 2017, 01:58 PM)
CX5 handling better and more agile but cabin space is very limited.

During my 5 years ownership of the CX5 I have zero problem, sold it for 80K, slightly more than 50% resale value after 5 years, not bad la.....

The new CRV I have is noisy, and seems heavy when accelerate but the reliability, durability, resale and spacious cabin is what I want.

Anyone knows where can find running board at good price please share....thanks.
*
Interesting observation... Been looking for such an owner's viewpoint. From CX-5 to new CRV.

There are three level of zoom. I admit the closest level is blur, but the one that show far off is pretty good. Maybe I'm just easy to please.

You do sound easy to please.. It's not an entirely bad thing. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(belfong @ Aug 23 2017, 09:57 PM)
I'm not always like that but over the years, I tell myself that I should not be spending precious time worrying over little details, which, over time I will not care for anymore. For example, the car is nice now, sure - but after 5 years, I probably don't care if there's a slight nick. And that rear camera is probably the least on my mind now among other things in life. So, why waste these precious time over small matters? It's happier that way, don't you think? Anyway, once a while, I still get bugged but it's a continuous challenge I have to overcome myself  rclxs0.gif
*
I agree, life's short to be lived worrying too much.. Well except for the being nicked part. Current ride's a couple years and the last time a bad motorcycle rider nicked it while trying to squeeze through, it felt like it was my skin.. Haha, yeah.. I get sentimental.. Same with my home minister. Personally, I'm just trying to learn as much as possible so I lower expectations before jumping in. Can't complain about an issue I knew was coming.. laugh.gif

Would it be possible to connect to the HU I wonder?

Would it void warranty?
*
A front camera, I'd understand..A dashcam is typically an install and forget and doesn't really need to be connected to the HU.. The vehicle's HU is very delicate stuff. It's my understanding that tapping into or routing stuff to the HU will make you lose the warranty. Unless you plan on removing such mods before sending in for warranty claim. No idea where to find such as too much hassle.

I saw Pioneer dashcam before comes with two parts. One is the small camera unit and the main electronic controller where. You can hide inside dashboard. The you need to connect the RCA video in to the HU.

Yeah.. I'm aware and as I said.. Too much hassle for little to no practical benefits. Better to buy a really good dashcam for clearer footage and stick to that. Most come with wifi too, can view from mobile devices.

Thank you!

By the way, is it a way to install Waze APK on Honda HU? I downloaded from HU internet browser but failed to installed  sweat.gif
*
The HU isn't running Android and as such won't take apk installs.. doh.gif.. Get Android Auto installed on your phone, connect via cable and launch on HU.. Waze is available on AA. Not on Apple Carplay.

On my HU, it has App list, inside there have a App Installer, after select it it will show
"Cant found APK on USB root directory"

The other APPs "Browser" and "Download" UI is same with Android.

I'm using iPhone that's why I looking a way to install Waza haha, otherwise have to use Apple Map cry.gif

Honda HU is running on Android based OS, same goes to the HU found in Civic. However Honda has blocked 3rd party apps installation and there have been many discussion in XDA developers on how to root it but if I'm not mistaken its not avail till today.
*
My bad.. doh.gif notworthy.gif... Depending on dev interest, someone may just find the exploit and make public. I'm assuming the method for the civic doesn't work on the CRV.

So, just took the car and family (4 adults and 2 kids) for a drive to Ipoh and this car is just so powerful in the highway. 130kph feels so smooth and quiet. The RPM at that speed is around 2700. At 100kph, RPM was just 1500. Super quiet. Pick up when overtaking is powerful and the turbo doesn't roar as loud as I'd expect. Very pleased with the performance and experience.

Good to know.

Our Honda HU not support bluetooth linked to the iOS Carplay?
*
No.. With the exception of the 2017 BMW 5 series outfitted with their latest HU, all other supporting HU require a wired connection.

QUOTE(isMEheNG @ Sep 3 2017, 08:39 AM)
hopefully can support through future firmware/software update  sweat.gif
*
Nope, that is very unlikely. one would require a hardware upgrade for that. It's more complicated to achieve the speeds and reliability that a wired connection offers. Take Bluetooth-car connections for instance, it has been around for quite awhile and yet even today, there are still pairing or usage/compatibility issues. And this is for "relatively simple" tasks such as to make/receive calls and play audio. AA & CarPlay do much more and require more processing.

A more easily achievable upgrade option for current vehicles could be like a dongle that is plugged into the car's USB port and wirelessly connects to the phone.

Alternatively and if compatible, here's an after market option. Should you be feeling adventurous to swap out the current one.. tongue.gif

QUOTE(belfong @ Sep 3 2017, 08:55 AM)
I find myself just using Bluetooth for short drive.. and CarPlay only on longer ones. Which means, I am not using CarPlay as often as I like. Wireless CarPlay is definitely the way to go forward.
*
Yeah, while wireless is definitely the way forward.. But it is not easy for it to be implemented especially given the adoption rate of wired AA & carplay. Car manufacturers are still dragging their feet to adopt this. Why? Well, part of the reason is that they've done a lot of R & D into their own HU, software and integration with vehicles. Can't just up and abandon em. Then we have to think about stability & security as well. A car can be a dangerous tool, by opening up wireless, manufacturers have to worry about new exploits, etc. Doing all this will take at least a couple years to iron out the kinks. I'd wager at least 5 - 10 years.

I still prefer using the USB cable anytime. In this way I can maintain my phone battery level and operating temperature. My old car player support wireless mirrorlink and that is horrible, my phone is hot and also battery level dropped too fast just for a 1hour trip.
*
Same here.. Prefer wired.

QUOTE(Sitting Duck @ Sep 4 2017, 01:14 PM)
I was told that installing a hand brake bypass and using a wifi/bluetooth dongle, we would be able to use the mirroring feature.  I saw it in the Honda Civic thread in lowyat forum.

Was thinking to install the hand brake bypass and get a wifi/bluetooth dongle but I'm not sure installing the hand brake bypass would

1. void any warranty.
2. cause the HU or dashboard to loose and starting to have rattling sound.

In dilemma now. sad.gif
My SA told me it's just a place to put your stuff. Tissue box, small toy decoration. Not sure it's true or not.
By the way, did anyone install "Stolen Vehicle Recovery" CSE Connex? It's RM2960. Was wondering whether it's needed? or it's too much. There's a yearly fee as well.
*
Personally, I would not mess with anything related to the car's braking system.. Warranty void or not. Especially the introduction of a bypass device. No thank you.. smile.gif

RM 10 extra - for data only line , provided if you are a Digi subscriber

Instead of paying to some company/china company. I prefer to DIY yourself. You get more control

Use Tasker + IFTTT + Connect to AA , then you can have some triggers as well
*
Bet you that most aren't familiar with or even heard of the likes of Tasker or IFTTT. A cheap compatible phone coupled with such data plan or one of those all year round line active plans will do the trick nicely. Of course, it won't be as slick as the "professional" service. But given one's skills and config, it's damn near close.

Hello. I ordered CRV 1.5 Premium edition recently. The waiting period is 2 months for modern silver colour. I should be getting it by Oct/Nov this year.  What is the depreciating value by January 2018? I can't find reliable info by goggling.
Is it better to wait till 2018? I am not offered any discount other than RM 3500 company discount.
*
Let's just say, you collect November latest and want to sell to me in January or February.. I'll definitely expect a much lesser price than whatever you pay today. You being the first owner must take the initial depreciation hit. smile.gif

QUOTE(belfong @ Sep 9 2017, 01:16 PM)
One thing I notice about Apple Maps in Car Play is that it will automatically pop up new routes if it helps save some travel time and ask if I want to choose that new route. I don't think I've seen this in Waze.
*
Waze does this too... Albeit more intelligently.. It does real-time calculations based on folks already ahead of you on the same route and automatically applies a reroute (no human interaction necessary), adjusting time higher or lesser. It pops up a little notification to tell if "traffic is increasing or lesser" along the route.

Waze does it at the beginning of the journey.

What I meant with Apple Maps was AFTER you already chose a route and you are driving along it, then it prompt you of a better alternative which will save you 8 minutes. Waze does not do that.
*
ANDDDD if you read my reply you'll realize I explained that Waze does do this and more intelligently..

Lucky you then... I didn't notice such during my extremely short test drive. So it's not all vehicles. Enough to cause some worry.

Mine have serious rattling noise when go through brick road. The noise is getting louder after almost 1month driving it.

Can't find the exact location, seems like it is from the start button or tweeter mounted at the door

Taken it to the SC? Reasons given? Besides the obvious QC issue.

Hybrid crv was announced in Germany, how long before we see it on our shores? Best estimate
*
Not anytime soon. It basically just cleared prototype stage and a lot more needs to be ironed out before mass production and sale can begin. I'd reckon 3 - 5 years before it gets here. In the meantime, lots of current engine needs to be sold off.. biggrin.gif

Is 2.0 model recommended?

Most say it's underpowered. Take it for a test drive and if it suits your needs.. Pull the trigger.

Not true, the hybrid version is not just roll out from R&D department as stated.
China already launched (during July 2017) the Hybrid version as their local highest spec variant wheres the 1.5T as low to mid variant.
So I don't think it need to take 3-5 years in order to be introduce locally.
Honda Malaysia is being aggressively upon launching hybrid vehicles lately with the debut of Jazz and City hybrid.
If the 2.0 naturally aspirated Honda CR-V couldn't sell, just throw in the Hybrid or i-DCD / IMA and there you go, the Honda CRV Hybrid.  brows.gif
*
My bad.. Read from a couple recent sources and they made it seem as I reported earlier. It was launched in China. smile.gif However, I still think it'll take the same amount of time as Honda needs to satisfy it's huge customer base in the USA, then other markets. Yes HM has been "aggressive" lately, but as history shows, we only get after the likes of Thailand and Indonesia.

P.S. I get what you mean but wouldn't call aggressive, cuz they are still holding out of stuffs others get as default. biggrin.gif

Is the noise due to the petrol engine not having enough torque?
This what what I thought too.
Any car which has fogging is not normal.

The crv has been released some time now. Just wondering why there are no Malaysia reviews online from normal car review channels. There is one from Sarawak I am guessing.
*
I have wondered the same too. No proper in-depth review yet from the usual "top dogs". I find it strange, cuz even before the official launch date, all the usual popular channels were buzzing with every little info and trying to outdo each other on quick/first look reviews. Could be that Honda Malaysia hasn't given em the green light to review it? Cuz they might find/report too much negatives? But then, it's only been 2 months since the official launch and it could be that there aren't free vehicles for media reviews? hmm.gif
