here's a hint
call, email and write alot of cover letters specific to the company and the job. No copy and paste, every company is different.

12 month contracts are fairly common. There are even shorter duration especially in this challenging climate.

Do check with them especially the benefits, insurance, epf, etc for your contract. The better ones would have you covered almost like a full time employee, with less risk on the employer if they would have to downsize.

However, depending on your team and performance, good indispensable ones are usually quickly offered a permanent solution as contractual staff have just 1 month notice period (say consider your annual leave, replacement leave, offshore leave, it's almost like throwing in the resignation letter and walking out the door immediately).

why do you say oil and gas company is not a good company to join? Sure the market isnt doing so well and the good old days are gone but theres still money to be made.

this is quite an open end question. It depends. Using contractor supplied vessels? Usually for projects or large scale maintenance works. Or using operation vessels? Usually direct liase with operation maintenance team.
