Noble Bully II standby extended until December 2018

SINGAPORE/MALAYSIA: The standby period for drillship Noble Bully II has been extended until December 2018.
The rig has been on a prolonged one-year standby status since April 2017. It was initially set to return to work soon, but is now set to continue being idle until the end of 2018. However, this will be at a higher standby rate of USD 230,000 a day until its return to service. The unit had received a day rate of no less than USD 200,000 a day for the first year on standby until April 2018. Shell has the floater on charter until around April 2022.

Deepwater Nautilus moves on to third firm well for Shell

MALAYSIA: Transocean semi Deepwater Nautilus has moved on to the third of its four firm wells for Shell Malaysia.
It is starting a plug-and-abandonment job on the Serai gas field. The rig is on a four-well charter with the operator that also includes 11 option wells. It will continue working for Shell in Malaysia until around May, after which it is scheduled to commence a one well plus three-option wells charter with Brunei Shell Petroleum. The floater will then resume its contract with Shell Malaysia when its work offshore Brunei Darussalam finishes around September 2018 at the earliest. If all the options on both charters are exercised, the rig could be occupied well into 2020.

Pexco issues new jackup tender

MALAYSIA: Pexco has issued a new tender for a jackup to work offshore Sarawak, following a recent rig survey for a one-well programme off Malaysia.
The tender, under the title of Provision of Jackup Rig for Pexco Drilling campaign will close on 2 May. The latest survey covers one exploration well on Block SK 302A offshore Sarawak in Malaysia, to be drilled tentatively in third quarter 2018 over an estimated duration of about 30 to 45 days. In the original tender, Pexco had looked to drill four firm exploration wells plus three optional wells on the four blocks it operates with an 85% interest.

Hess Malaysia looking to keep UMW Naga 8 beyond current contract

MALAYSIA: Subject to PETRONAS' approval, Hess Malaysia now plans to continue with its charter of jackup UMW Naga 8 for up to another two years.
The unit is currently firmly chartered by the operator until around May 2018, excluding a one-year option. In third quarter 2017, Hess had issued a survey for a jackup to commence by June 2018 a two-part work scope, covering three deep wells under Part 1 and two separate campaigns of four and five wells each under Part 2. The duration, over about two years, would include the operator's HPHT requirement on the North Malay Basin Full Field Development's Phase 1B drilling campaign off Peninsular Malaysia.

Probably while drilling they hit gas pockets that escaped to surface and blew up.

What actually the cause the incident?

I don't know. I retract my statement that this ship is not for oil and gas drilling as fleetmon.com report states it is an oil research ship.

However based on my view of the ship's photo, the derrick is small and wont drill so deep.

Oil research ship GEOS suffered explosion in engine room and fire at around 0300 LT Apr 17 off Kuala Baram, northwest Kalimantan, near Malaysia Brunei border. Crew reportedly had to jump in water, out of 38 people on board 1 or 2 went missing, the rest were rescued, some with burns and injures. Judging from photos, GEOS is engulfed in fire. The ship was engaged in offshore oil exploration, nearby offshore tugs are trying to dose the fire. According to latest updates as of 0500 UTC Apr17, the ship as burning out.

Ok, just wonder what actually happened.

I know the vessel is for soil investigation/geotechnical for area rig will spud. Or maybe before platform/jacket is install.

We use their report for location approval from warranty surveyor before rig move and spudding the well.
