Massive hiring spree by Bumi Armada for a large-scale FPSO project. Have a hunch it's an Angolan FPSO, but no official word yet.

Any reason why Hyundai is losing out on Rosemari & Marjoram?

since the rumours has been saying Samsung is to be awarded

Samsung got sarawak methanol project on going, they can quote lower since they have set up the required overheads in bintulu compared to other competitor.

Ah okay so this is the Eni project in Angola, vs Yinson and MISC.

I've never seen a company advertise positions like this when there is no certainty in contract award though.

Yeaup its that project. There is certainly no certainty in contract award. The FEED is ongoing (FEED competition basis)
The tender also ongoing.

Hmm okay, but they even go to the extent of mentioning this is for June 2022 hiring. Plus I don't see Yinson and MISC doing the same advertisements.

What is the benefit to make this advertisement actually, if like what is being said here, they haven't even got the project?

Never seen? Its been practice by many companies for many years already.
They just want to collect CV for tendering purposes.

Yes correct. Bumi Armada has small team - mostly left or fired previously.
Many of them are in MISC and SBM . . .

According to CIMB, three Malaysian companies are bidding for two large FPSO projects in Angola.

---------

What are the chances of BAB winning either TotalEnergies’ Cameia FPSO project or Eni’s Agogo FPSO project? We believe that the chances are high for the following reasons. According to industry newspaper Upstream, Yinson, MISC and BAB are all bidding for two Angolan projects. In our view, Yinson will only have the capacity to take one of these two large projects due to its internal project management manpower constraints. BAB’s limited balance sheet capacity suggests that it can only accept one project, while MISC is unlikely to be able to participate as it is likely struggling with Petrobras’ FPSO Mero-3 project, in our analysis. In short, we think that Yinson and BAB may each take one prize. TotalEnergies may award the commercial deal for the Cameia FPSO in 2H22F, as with Eni’s Agogo FPSO.

I don't think MISC is out from the picture as I don't see any problem with Mero3. Mero 3 is progressing.

Among this 3 bidders, MISC have the best financial support and engineering team ready. smile.gif

Yinson have limited source due to current projects on-ongoing and BAB is just recovered.

The job won't start if it's agogo as it's still under bidding stage

If it's total (french operator) project, maybe but I am unaware of the project timeline and award details.

It's to gather as many CV as many Cv can be rejected by client due to non compliance.
Hence, they need more CV.
As what mentioned before, BAB has very limited workforce
Their ongoing project is mostly by SP.
Recently, BAB did hire a few seniors from the industry.

Is it possible for Malaysia to be the FPSO hub globally? As we have 3 experienced industry players, in the entire world not many companies specialise in this niche segment.

Indeed. With FPSO sector booming and development of marginal fields becoming more viable than ever (tech advancement + lower costs), it'd be really great if we becoming the global hub for such operations. Some non-Malaysian FPSO players also have their project teams based here in KL.

Hi all,
How do you go about determining the "market rate" for your current/future roles?

Do you:
1. Ask your network, seniors?

2. Ask recruiters via LinkedIn?

3. Look at job ads with salary information (damn hard to find these in Malaysia)?

4. Check websites e.g.Glassdoor ?
Or reports from recruitment companies e.g. below (from what I've seen, these reports tend to be very broad across industries. But would be great to know if there are more industry specific reports).
https://www.hays.com.my/salary-guide

Which one has provided the best results?

Specifically I'm talking about the upstream O&G industry in Malaysia. Would really appreciate any inputs on this. notworthy.gif
