I'm currently a Mechanical student and i'm kind of intersted with this field.

I found this website via google

http://www.dcaklia.gov.my/EnglishPages/MENU/FrameUtama.htm

Academic Qualification
A recognised degree or Air Traffic Control Officer (ATCO) or diploma for Assistant ATCO.

Where can i get the degree/diploma for ATCO?How long is the course? unsure.gif

Or maybe is there any website which explain more about minimum requirement and stuff like that for this field?

P/S : I'm not sure whether i should post here or under Education Essentials, mod please move this if i post it in the wrong section, thanks.

I must salute you for your ambition. ATC is a very demanding job.
IMHO controllers are overworked and underpaid.

Best of luck to you.

Im not sure about the pay (I heard it was very well-paid). 1 thing for sure is that the stress level of this job is very high!

I have passed my radiotelephony exams early in the year and the tests weren't that hard at all
except for the practical part which could get a little harsh.

you are required to have a keen sense of navigation and the capability of maintaining your calm

that aside

the work hours aren't long and you'll be rotating shifts roughly every 2 hours or so
atc crews are not allowed to work for long hours due to the fact that concentration is the key component to the job.

i wouldn't say the job doesn't pay you much
but i couldn't say it pays you a load as well.

though i'm not in the ATC line. I have a family company that is in the aviation sector and believe me you. Use the Malaysian ATC career oppoturnities to gain experience and after a year or two with no incidents go ahead and fly off to the U.K and advance your ATC career over there. Pays extremely well. Loads of benefits. And flexible working hours of about 4 hours a day.

that aside

here are the exams that you will have to undergo

R/T - practical at DCA putrajaya
R/T - theory > location will be set by appointment confirmation and can only be taken once you have passed practical

you don't have to go for classes. I did not and I still did well..

search for CAA leaflet 22B - Radiotelephony

and read it, memorize it.

also there's another publication which is downloadable which i think is from CAA as well.

these are the only materials you'll need to get that done and you will obtain your R/T license as soon as you pass your practical R/T exam.

also if you're interested in a Privates Pilots License (PPL) the R/T license you have can be used as one of the requirements to get the PPL is to pass the R/T examinations. aside from HPL (human performance limitations) GAL (general air law), Meteorology, and i forgot what's the last subject. it's been a while >.<

price... depends on if you go for courses or not.

if you don't It's damn cheap

if you do then I have no idea but i'm sure it'll cost you at least 3000 bucks

DGR course costs about 2000 bucks.

asked my friends over at the Subang LTSAS tower

they said this

pros

- shorter than average working hours
- above average pay
- some benefits

cons

- can get very stressful during peak season
- accents are a b****
- weird unreliable working hours (your shift ranges from 0000-2359 local time)
- shift switching can get very annoying.

You can apply to be ATC as long you got a degree. My friend's father is one of the senior officers in DCA Malaysia.

That day I was in circuit kena kaw kaw from the controller.

"DO YOU UNDERSTAND MY INSTRUCTION???" shouted the exasperated controller..

If she's reading this... minta maaf!! Sorry!! I'm just a newbie and unfamiliar with Melaka airport. Last visit 2 years ago.
