Absolutely stunning, especially the 'The Flow of Time'. Mind sharing your technique for this shot?

Were your photos featured on BBC a few months ago? Your name and photos look familiar.

Hi Elgan,

Yes, I got some of my works on BBC, glad you had read about it. biggrin.gif

I was taking a timelapse video during that time, which took around 2 hours shooting. From that series of the photos, I took 120 photos, loaded into Photoshop as layers and blended them together using the "Lighten" blend mode, which formed a star trails effect. ^^

Then, I use another few more photos from the same series, which is those that took at dawn with jeep passing by and form a beautiful light trails. I blended in only the foreground together with the light trails, so here is the final outcome of the photo. smile.gif

Fuh to get that Milkyway shot in all its glory curving on the horizon is mindblowing. It takes more than effort and tremendous planning.

Appreciate a guide of taking selfie photos like The Intersection. How does one balance allowing longer exposure while allowing a selfie while in it. I tried posing still for duration of the exposure but seems to fail during my trials.

Thanks, Granjindo, shoot at Mt Kinabalu definitely one of the toughest shooting that I have ever done before, but no doubt the result worth it. biggrin.gif

I completely agree with you mate! No doubt landscape photography is a mixture of planning, photography skill, post processing and the lastly, the one that played the smallest role but also very important, which is the LUCK. I have lot's of outing ended up with nothing, luckily most of my oversea trips are okay. tongue.gif

That's a good suggestion, I think I going to write an article about that and share it later here. biggrin.gif

Generally, the key here actually is to take two different photos with the same composition but different settings.

Let's take an example:

Photo A (for foreground) - longer shutter speed for a bright foreground.

Without moving your camera, you capture another shoot.

Photo B (selfie) - shorter shutter speed (maybe around 15seconds) and boosting up the ISO.

Then just blend the person from photo B into photo A, DA!DA! Done! ^^

Of course, you can choose to use Photo B alone instead of blending, but then will have a result with much more noises.

Hope my explanation help. wink.gif

Thanks Fzeo, no doubt wide angle lens is one of the important aspects, but it doesn't mean is absolutely needed.

In some of the photo, I'm using much longer focal length, which can be 24,30 or 50mm, depend on the distance between the subject and where I stand.

Alternatively, you can consider doing a panorama photo, although it means more works for a single photo that same as a wide angle lens but you will have a much higher resolution photo. biggrin.gif

If you have been to the famous "Jelatek" spot, you can shoot with a longer focal length.

Another example is below photo that took at 24mm. smile.gif

Thanks for the above. Thus, fair to say that I won't be able to get such a shot without post processing them? I lean more towards photos that doesn't require processing. Although I am aware processing can enhance how a photo looks, I find them too unreal, despite the beauty of it. I have seen some where minimal PP are done, which is already at my limit biggrin.gif

I'll give your idea a shot one of these days.

No worry, everyone has their own preference. smile.gif

As what I mentioned earlier, it is still achievable in a single photo (without blending, PP) by boosting up a much higher ISO to shorten the shutter speed, the main purpose of the blending technique is just I able to have a better image quality with lower noise level.

Another way you can do is to use a light painting technique, it helps to brighten the foreground and the person with faster shutter speed without the need to boost up the ISO. Below photo is done in a single shot but of course, you need to help from friend wink.gif

bro, do you have tutorial video to teach people how to take photo and editing?
when you do long exposure shooting with people in it, does it mean that person cannot move at all?

when you want to do long exposure with portrait in it, you can always set your flash as rear curtain sync mode. Add a remote trigger with flash hot shoe with stand / without stand, trigger it with manual TTL flash (rear curtain sync mode) a.k.a 2nd curtain sync mode. At the end of the exposure the flash will flash to freeze the subject/person in the frame with background milky way. You can also set your camera/dslr into timer mode so you have a lot time to move into position ^^

rear curtain sync mode, you can google how to set your flash mode depend on variable model of your flash and camera setting.
user posted image

flash hot shoe, is a hot shoe flash is a flash that can be triggered to fire with the camera's shutter when it is inserted into a standard hotshoe on top of a camera.
This is an example a trigger remote mount on my camera hotshoe flash slot.
user posted image
this pocket wizard trigger can trigger multiple flash at once
user posted image
then, you can set stand/tripod to mount the flash
user posted image

Most DSLRs come equipped with a hotshoe while compact cameras do not
