If you disregard the brand perception the Optima is value for money but will it attract the uncles who usually go for Camrys, Teenas and Accords? I think a bit tough as they may be past the age group where power and performance can overcome brand perception.

The Optima GT will appeal to the younger set who are enamoured with its power but its price isn't friendly to them. I perceive a mismatch between the target market and the price.

At Rm145K the Optima K5 sold reasonably well but I don't expect its success to be repeated with the Optima GT unless Naza can bring down the price substantially.

Korek... Uncle will not buy power D segmen. They getting old n their reflect when drive fast also not very good
Major uncle in D segmen sure give lane when cucuking them.
But good side, they got lot money

We middle age 35-40 dun have lot money but wan power so just wait discount lorrr... Hehe

Another good review, this time from Down Under. It looks like Kia is also fighting consumer perception down there even though the Optima GT comes with even more goodies like adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, autonomous braking and Infinity sound system that Naza has stripped out.

Kia msia think buyer dun google internet on optima spec

as someone who owned a Korean car for the past 2 years, i think the Optima GT is quite overprice wor for the spec.. personally as a D segment and hi-end car in Kia sedan line, it should at least have active safety package included, Blind Spot Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking, to name a few. I don't really mind the remove the Infinity speaker as we can retrofit other speakers easily... Naza really should think back about this...
*
when optima launched in 2011 price is 144k, during that time full spec
then market slow, kia reduce to 138K, many people bought
then 2014 got facelift 150k but design not cun aldy compare 1st

so this gt will get disc too if market slow but dunno how much
maybe 159k or 169k

The price of the Optima GT is too close to a Passat to be a poor man's Passat. With aggressive discounting by VGM the Passat 2.0 TSI may even be sold at the same price as the Optima GT. And besides those hunkering after European cars won't be attracted to a Korean car.
*
same price but higher maintenance
cheapskate like me will not buy passat

If below rm140k, perhaps there will be more buyers.

At the price level that Optima GT is asking owners want some prestige to go with the car. Unfortunately the Optima doesn't have much by way of prestige or status compared to a Jap D-segment or a Conti car. That is is main drawback to potential buyers, not its price.

Korek... They didn't listen to cust

*
Hahaha... To shorten the journey must 200kmh all the way
I travel frm kl to penang since 1999
110kmh isn't an option... demmm back pain

With Optima GT pricing, IMO, I would rather up a bit and get Passat 2.0 or go down slightly cheaper and get Camry Hybrid.

If Passat better take seken 2-3yrs old with waranti... More value buy
Dun wan hybrid coz obj is power not save fuel

Normally when come to turbo, minority only talk about top speed
Reason
- our road isn't 100km straight like balladonia, aussie
- myvi still tailgate me even meter aldy show 180kmh

Turbo is helpful when we wanna smoke our tailgater
When come to msia road, most of tailgater will smoke out at 2nd n 3rd gear
Eg. Gua musang trunk road, while hybrid is 50-50 tu cut double line when got lori at front, optima gt will have no isu to cut it flawlessly
After 20 lori has been cut out, belip hybrid aldy 10 tiang left frm gt

1 one of major reason why people buy turbo

Well that's quite some mock up scenario cutting 20 lorries. wink.gif   Well you just extended my mentioning of "usable acceleration". tongue.gif

In reality I guess it would be 1 (or hardly even 2), unless drivers balls are big. Double-lines route usually have very poor visibility on the opposite lanes. Hence the "turbo" are added advantage, or rather filling the hole with the absence of > 2.0L engine options?
*
not cut 20 lori 1 shot la bro, i mean maybe from k.lipis to g.musang got 20 lori in between...

i belip there are 10% street racer population in msia road with big ball (not to mention me is one of them... lolzzz)
easy to find them, go genting at 1am weekend
this type of street racer got exp in defensive driving, very fast reaction & know msia road very well
they also know limit of their car very well (if their mind said, my car can cut 2 lori in 1 shot, they will not hesitate to press the pedal all the way, not 50-50)
they also very aware on the surrounding and calc very fast reaction on what happen next (eg, suddenly babi hutan cross the road when cut queue, what to do in next 0.5sec)
normal driver will call them stupid, yell like a hell "wanna race go sepang track la", but other street racer who tailgate them will praise them highly (itu yg balik umah campak enjin wira, masuk gsr tu)
it's not we're street racer like to talk big, but we're kind of person who prefer "talk" on the road using pedal rather than forum using keyb...

if i'm a normal driver, i'll not be in this thread, i'll be in camry or accord thread... kekeke

What's OptimaGT has, which Camry Hybrid doesn't:
1. heated/ventilated seats
2. more power
3. 6spd vs e-CVT (for some this might be the deciding factor)
4. sunroof
5. foldable rear (totally forget about this, camry hybrid can't fold)
What Camry Hybrid has, which OptimaGT doesn't:
1. Blind spot detection
2. power sunshade and sunshade for doors
3. Hybrid vs turbo (can be a deciding factor)
4. 10 JBL speakers vs ... ?
5. DVD/CD
p/s: has been quite sometime unable to obtain Kia brochures or spec sheet pdf.
*
from above list, i only see bold item only, the rest are not a factor
