The best way to get into an NZ university after SPM other than going to do your pre-u there would be to do your pre-u here ^^ You can go to places like Taylor's that offers Australian Year 12 programs like SAM or Cambridge A-Levels which are accepted qualifications for entry into NZ universities =)

how about a levels? is it just as accepted as SAM?

SAM is a good choice as NZ and Aussie does accept each others qualifications so SAM is mostly accepted in NZ.A-Levels is also a very good choice.Depending on what your planning to study A-Levels may be the better choice to gain admission =)

Regardless which qualification you took as long as you meet the entry requirements set by the university then it's ok.Most if not all NZ unis accept A-Levels and Australian year 12 programs like SAM,Ausmat etc.
SAM has a better timing than A-Levels to apply for February intake though. Are you a 2009 spm leaver? If so I think you just missed the intake dates of SAM as most last intake for Australian Year 12 has started though they might accept you if you register immediately ^^"
Or you can wait for A-Levels June intake where you can finish by the end of next year and can make it for Uni in the first semester 2012 ^^"

Since your a CPU graduate why not just go to the Taylor's placement center? They can surely help you all the way and answer your questions.
