QUOTE(jphlau @ Jan 20 2010, 04:17 PM) if you just live near the uni, then walking is fine. Ilam is more expensive than renting outside. But the good thing is that you will mix with people from different races compared if you are renting outside.the internet is unlimited if i am mistaken. renting outside also can mix.. if you can afford, nothing wrong with ilam. no unlimited.. internet rates went up last year compared to 2008, and i reckon it is going up again this year

QUOTE(XIII @ Feb 23 2010, 01:30 AM) Hi. Got a question needed to be cleared here. My Pre-U results are out and NZ is one of my top choices for further studies. I noticed that if I wanted to be admitted this year that would mean I have to be enrolled into the so called Semester 2 period, which is at around July if I am not mistaken. Some universities do no recommend going into Sem2 directly and instead encourages students to wait for Sem1 intake period especially for those interested in engineering and science. Though that would mean I have to wait until next year. The problem is that would I be in serious disadvantage if I were to just go straight in into Sem2? i'm doing science course at UC. for me. 2nd sem a bit shorter, plus, from what i heard from people, 2nd sem usually questions during exam gonna be harder.. plus, it's winter that time.. so quite uncomfortable to study for some people. probably others can elaborate more

QUOTE(wornbook @ Feb 23 2010, 02:35 PM) That's probably because, for a some courses, the 1st semester papers are prerequisites for 2nd semester ones. For example, you may need to do PHYC 101 and 102 in the first year (and to progress to 2nd year papers). But PSYC 101 is only offered in semester 1 and PSYC 102 only in semester 2. Same for 2nd year papers 201 and 202. Then there's fully year papers, were you do one paper over two semesters. They will start in semester 1, so obviously you can't do it if you only start uni in semester 2. I suggest you check the papers on offer for the course you want to do. Try and work out if you'll be able to take all papers in the right order, without wasting time waiting for another semester/year.true, that happened to my friend. he went in during 2nd sem of 2008, then contd first sem ( and finished his intermediate) 2009. but since first pro engineering wont start half way of the year. he had to wait for 2010 first pro.. so he spent his 2nd sem of 2009 taking only one course, repeating the same subject to improve mark, and working.. but lucky he is a citizen..

QUOTE(ninty @ Dec 12 2010, 05:57 PM) Almost all internships I know of are handled by students with the companies directly, you need to apply to them. Unis do have summer scholarships/research projects tho. yeah.. i think it's not like malaysia where companies have deal with uni.. because they pay you at least 12.75/hour for practical.. same as normal people working some of friend who lucky got to do practical here, made money.. some have to return to msia to do that..

QUOTE(JJTam @ Dec 19 2010, 01:36 PM) Hi, i would like to know how to obtain a motorcycle license in NZ if i don't have a malaysia motorcycle license for convertion. Based on the NZ gov site, i need a learner's license in order to ride a 250cc bike. How u guys commute around there? depends where r u going to study and depends how much u wanna spend.. auckland, most probably u will end up walking and public transport as cost to own a car overthere quite expensive. parking fees and the limited space. if in chch and otago uni, u can choose both.. but i only used public for few times, then bought a car. you can use ur driving license for one year. and then after one year, if you still in nz, you need to change, but if you go out of the country, it will reset back to 0.
