Hello.
I'm asking just to get some info here. Is there by any chance I can take something (exam or test or class) that is equivalent to NZ Hons degree here in M'sia? AFAIK , M'sian degree is not the same as NZ Hons degree , right? It really makes a different on the duration of studies when we want to persue our Masters there. Thank you. The difference between the Aus/NZ system and UK (which Malaysia uses) of Honors degree's is well explained in the front page stickie: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=18375062
I'm not sure if a Honors is really needed to do a masters in NZ through. What field do you want to do your Masters in? |

haya , thanks for the link.
I've read them all and I understand. Thats true that Honours is not really needed to do Masters , but here , I quoted from Uni of Otago web : QUOTE The master's degree is normally a full-time one-year programme for candidates with a four-year honours degree or postgraduate diploma, and a two year programme for candidates with a standard bachelor's degree. http://www.otago.ac.nz/international/postg...irements.html#2 Added on April 17, 2009, 10:28 amOh and btw , I'm not doing my Masters yet , just want to get some info. not exactly, that's a postgraduate diploma, not masters.
however, requirements differ depending on the type of master's degree that you want to go for |

Eh , are you sure that is for Postgraduate Diploma , lilredridinghood?
But I quoted for 'Masters' there. Pls correct me if I'm wrong. So maybe they will consider someone with working experience , perhaps 1 or 2 years , to finish Masters in 1 year. Interesting. |

Generally, if you have a Honors you can go straight into a Masters by research program. People without a Honors in their Bachelor degree will go into Masters by coursework.
Then again, it all depends on the field of study you are in. Which leads me back to my original question: Massa, what field are you in, and where are you currently studying? |

I have 1 question.....
Lets say a graduate from a Malaysian Uni in Biotechnology wants to enroll in a Masters course for Uni of Otago, from the description..... QUOTE The master's degree is normally a full-time one-year programme for candidates with a four-year honours degree or postgraduate diploma, and a two year programme for candidates with a standard bachelor's degree. It says a four-year honours degree, but so far Malaysian Uni's are offering a three-year honours degree in Biotechnology...... What should 1 do if he still wish to enroll in it?? Thanks for any help given........ |

QUOTE(Limster88 @ Apr 20 2009, 07:33 PM) I have 1 question..... Unless any of us has actual experience, I don't think we can give you a definite answer. It says a four-year honours degree, but so far Malaysian Uni's are offering a three-year honours degree in Biotechnology...... What should 1 do if he still wish to enroll in it?? Thanks for any help given........ My hunch is that you'll have to do the full 18 months programme, since that's the standard for a Masters programme. A PGDip is generally the taught component of the Master (ie, Masters minus the research thesis). But this is just a hunch. You'll be better off just asking Otago directly. Get it from the horse's mouth, so to speak. An email isn't difficult to write.
