You mean the R-line generation which is the staple for all korean diesel engines? Well the difference on starex were CC, WGT, and rubbish delphi injectors. Don't worship this R-line diesel engine. The core of its power comes from aggressive boosting. Pop your pipings, the car barely can accelerate or climb a slope. the 2.2 liter engine is really weak when running Naturally aspirated. However the tuning potential is there. Starex engine is no slouch either. My only gripe is for a MPV with FWD, the torque is too much. Running 4x4 would be better.

p.s, I was told the starex block shares the same blue print as some of the older gen merc engine. not sure if this is true or not.

injectors can be serviced by couple of ways. one is dismantle clean and replace parts that are worn. Another is run through a injector cleaning machine to clean for those that are not serviceable. commonrail injectors are not cheap. each piece would set you back around 1k. That's 4-5k for baseline replacement.
